How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 1.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,966 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior and high-quality finishes. The user-friendly heads-up display also comes up as a recurring plus. On the downside, the back seat is cramped and the infotainment setup is widely criticized, so you should weigh those trade-offs if you need easy rear-seat access or a simple interface.

For you, that means the CX-5 makes the most sense if you want a polished compact crossover that feels more upscale than basic transportation. It also fits buyers who value a fun-to-drive character and strong safety credentials. The market still shows 40.7% good or great deals, which leaves room to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, well put together, and enjoyable over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the CX-5’s refined, accurate operation and its solid, tight feel on the road, which supports the impression of dependable day-to-day use. Mazda also includes a free three-year trial subscription to Mazda Connected Services, which adds some ownership convenience early on.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the CX-5’s known compromises, especially its fuel economy and frustrating infotainment experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, rear-seat usability, and whether the infotainment system and driver-assistance features work the way you expect. If you plan to use the CX-5 as a family vehicle, make sure the cargo area and back seat meet your needs before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans from the 2.5 S to the 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the base version is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about upscale touches. Higher trims add more premium materials and features, while the top version gets the most exclusive equipment.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 187 hp and pairs with a six-speed automatic and standard AWD. The available turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers much stronger output and is the better choice if you want quicker acceleration.
• Safety package: Mazda bundles most of its i-Activsense driver-assistance tech as standard equipment. The 2.5 Turbo Signature adds the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Mazda Connected Services. The system does not include a helpful voice recognition system, and its control setup can be frustrating to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 24 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-5’s core strengths without the higher price of the upper trims. It makes sense if you want the styling, safety, and driving feel at the lowest cost.
• 2.5 S Select: This is the first step up if you want a little more comfort and convenience without jumping too far in price. It should suit you if you want a better-balanced daily driver than the base model.
• 2.5 S Preferred: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it moves you closer to the CX-5’s upscale feel without pushing into the pricier upper tiers. If you want the sweet spot between equipment and cost, start here.
• 2.5 S Carbon Edition: Choose this if you care most about appearance and want a more distinctive look. It’s for you if style matters as much as substance.
• 2.5 S Premium: This trim is for shoppers who want a more polished cabin and more features while staying with the standard engine. It’s a good fit if you want comfort upgrades without going all the way to turbo power.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: This is the most fully equipped non-turbo choice and suits you if you want a near-luxury experience without stepping into the turbo models.
• 2.5 Turbo: Pick this if you want the stronger engine and the more rewarding driving experience. It’s the right move if performance matters more than saving at the pump.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the top trim and the one to buy if you want the most exclusive equipment, including the extra safety and parking tech. It’s best if you want the most premium CX-5 experience.

The safety package is broadly standard, but the most advanced features are reserved for the 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

The market is leaning in your favor right now, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings and can move quickly on a well-priced example.

• Deal availability: 40.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,966 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,823, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $25,289 sits slightly below last year's $25,688.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has become a bit easier to buy than it was a year ago, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, though, it means you should expect a market that rewards well-kept examples more than average ones. Strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment should matter more when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is standard across most of the lineup, and it includes smooth, refined, and accurate driver-assistance tech. The 2.5 Turbo Signature adds the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist. Higher trims also add an Active Driving Display, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning alerts.

One caveat is that the most advanced features are not spread evenly across the lineup, so you’ll want to confirm exactly which trim you’re considering. The CX-5 also has a noted nighttime lighting issue that deserves attention during a test drive.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 40.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the same stylish, fun-to-drive formula with no major changes.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,273, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,289 average.
• It offers a more premium-feeling compact crossover at a lower price.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,674, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,289 average.
• It brings continued refinement, a comfortable cabin, and strong safety.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and current-market availability, the 2023 is the easy starting point. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2022 is the better value path. If you want the latest refinement and don’t mind paying more, the 2024 is worth a look.
