How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 4,817 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the CX-5 for its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior, high-quality finishes, and user-friendly heads-up display. The ride quality and handling also come up as recurring positives, which fits a model aimed at buyers who want a polished driving experience rather than basic transportation.

The trade-offs are familiar: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the infotainment interface is widely criticized. That makes the CX-5 a strong fit if you value style, refinement, and driving enjoyment more than maximum space or the easiest tech interface.

Good and great deals account for 39.2% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, well-finished, and enjoyable to live with over time, which is the kind of experience shoppers usually want from a dependable used SUV. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the CX-5 feels tighter and more solid after its engineering updates, with a refined ride and responsive controls that support confidence in daily use.

Mazda also positions the CX-5 with premium-leaning quality and attention to detail, which can be a good sign for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the cabin space and tech frustrations will still suit your needs after the novelty wears off.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin electronics, interior condition, and how the vehicle has been used, since the CX-5’s strengths are tied closely to refinement and equipment. If you care about daily livability, pay close attention to rear-seat space, cargo usability, and whether the infotainment setup works for you.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 is stylish and assembled with high-quality materials, but the small back seat, cramped cargo area, and irritating infotainment system are the main feature-related compromises to watch for. The cabin feels more like a small luxury SUV than a mass-market machine, so base-trim equipment gaps matter less than whether the overall package suits your needs.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 187 hp and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium fuel, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular fuel. The standard setup returns 26 mpg in combined driving, and the turbo is rated at 24 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Mazda bundles most of its i-Activsense driver-assistance tech as standard equipment, with a few features reserved for the 2.5 Turbo Signature. Those exclusive features include the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Mazda Connected Services with a free three-year trial subscription. The system is widely criticized for its awkward center-console controls and lack of a helpful voice recognition system.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 26 mpg combined, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the other four versions in the lineup.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest price, including the standard all-wheel-drive setup and the 187-hp four-cylinder. It makes sense if you want the styling, safety, and driving feel without paying for the turbo engine.
• 2.5 Turbo: This is the best-value choice if you want the stronger 256-hp turbocharged engine and the more rewarding performance character that makes the CX-5 especially appealing. It gives you the most compelling blend of power and everyday usability without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: This trim sits higher in the lineup and is a better fit if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for added equipment over the base model. It suits buyers who care about refinement and comfort more than absolute value.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the most luxurious and feature-rich version, and it is the one to choose if you want the full premium experience. It adds the exclusive safety and parking features, plus the most upscale cabin presentation.

The safety package is broadly standard across the lineup, but the 2.5 Turbo Signature gets the extra driver-assistance and parking features that set it apart.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,817 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,842, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $25,608 sits slightly below last year's $25,868.

That small decline suggests the CX-5 is holding value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For a future seller, that usually means you are working with a market that still recognizes the model’s appeal, especially its styling, safety, and premium feel.

The current pricing range also shows that buyers are still willing to pay for well-kept examples, but they are not chasing them aggressively enough to push values higher. If you maintain the vehicle well and keep it clean, you should be in a decent position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, along with the usual four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is the core of the CX-5’s safety story, and most of its driver-assistance technology comes standard. The system operates in a smooth, refined, and accurate manner, and the CX-5 also includes E911 automatic collision notification. Higher trims add an Active Driving Display, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning alerts, and more advanced parking and low-speed assistance features.

The main caveat is that some of the most useful features are reserved for the 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the expert review also flags a nighttime headlight-use issue that Mazda should address. Even so, the CX-5 remains one of the strongest safety choices in its class.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds only a Rhodium White premium paint update while keeping the CX-5’s premium feel and strong safety focus.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,681, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,608 average.
• It offers a more premium-feeling CX-5 with strong style, driving enjoyment, and safety.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,867, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,608 average.
• It benefits from continuous refinement that makes the CX-5 feel better than ever.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, strong safety, and broad inventory, the 2023 is the sensible pick. If you are focused on saving money, the 2022 is the better value play. If you want the newest version and do not mind paying more, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
