Overview

The 21st-century Grand Wagoneer came to market in 2022 as the top-of-the-line model from Jeep’s top-of-the-line Wagoneer brand. It’s the crème de la crème offering from the storied American brand, and it’s getting bigger and better in 2023.
Let’s talk “bigger” first. For the 2023 model year, Wagoneer will offer both a Grand Wagoneer and a long-wheelbase version known as the Grand Wagoneer L (as well as a Wagoneer and Wagoneer L). The wheelbase on the L variant is 7 inches longer than that of the simply Grand Wagoneer, and the overall length is a full foot longer. Totaling 226.7-inches in length, the Grand Wagoneer L also enjoys enlarged interior space, offering 36.6 inches of third-row legroom and a best-in-class 44.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. That’s 15.8 more cubic feet than you’ll get in the standard-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer—substantially bigger.
Now onto “better.” It’s a tougher term to justify, but Stellantis has provided metrics that make us pretty confident in the usage. Let’s start with the new engine. The Wagoneer lineup is saying goodbye to the Hemi in 2023 and moving on to the new inline-six twin-turbo Hurricane engines. The Grand Wagoneer gets the Hurricane Twin Turbo 510, so titled because it makes 510 horsepower along with its 500 lb-ft of torque. The old V8 Hemi produced 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, and that’s certainly nothing to sneeze at, but we can all agree that more is better when it comes to engine output. Factor in the improved efficiency, which reduces emissions and provides an extra one to two mpg, and the 2023 Grand Wagoneer with its Hurricane is looking definitively better than last year’s with its Hemi.
Like the 2022 Grand Wagoneer, both 2023 Grand Wagoneer models come standard with Jeep’s Quadra-drive II four-wheel drive (4WD) system. This includes the rear Electronic Limited-slip Differential (ELSD) designed to maximize traction. Lest we forget that the Grand Wagoneer is fundamentally a fancier Jeep, it also includes the Selec-Terrain system with five drive modes Auto, Sport, Sand/Rock, Snow, and Mud. The 2023 Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L also come with a standard air suspension system, which optimizes ride quality by continuously adjusting for road conditions and driving styles.
Even a base Series I trim Grand Wagoneer comes standard with the 19-speaker McIntosh MX950 Entertainment System. And if that’s not enough for you, a 23-speaker system McIntosh MX1375 Reference Entertainment system is available on Series II Grand Wagoneers and standard on those with Series III or Obsidian trims.
The tech does not end there—far from it. Every Wagoneer model comes with Stellantis’s Uconnect 5 system, a fan favorite here at CarGurus. The car not only includes Alexa connectivity, a 4G LTE hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; it can also provide Bluetooth connectivity for two separate phones simultaneously. Passengers—even second-row passengers—get their own screens, and the standard 12.3-inch frameless digital gauge cluster up front is customizable, letting the driver select digital and analog controls as they wish.
Speaking of the driver, they’ll find plenty of support behind the wheel here. Each Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L is packed with more than 120 standard safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, adaptive cruise control, active lane management, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Additional available safety features include traffic sign recognition, surround view camera, and drowsy driver detection, among a host of other driver- assistance options.
All Wagoneer models come with Wagoneer Client Services, which includes five years of dealership maintenance, trip interruption coverage, and first-day vehicle rentals free of charge.
Pricing information and arrival dates on the 2023 Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer L are not yet available, but the Hurricane Twin Turbo 510 can be optioned on 2022 Grand Wagoneers now.
