Used 2023 Honda Civic Type R for Sale nearNew York, NY

How much does the 2023 Honda Civic Type R cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 169 listings available, which suggests a modest but workable amount of inventory for shoppers.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R a good car?

It’s a strong pick if you want a hot hatch that prioritizes excitement over everyday blandness, and the data backs that up with a 3.7/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its impressive performance, responsive handling, instant torque, and distinctive turbo sounds. The expert review also highlights that it is fun to drive, has a powerful engine, and remains comfortable enough to live with.

The trade-offs are practical rather than emotional: all-wheel drive is not available, and the touchscreen response is sluggish.

Given the overview’s emphasis on a car built to be exciting every time you get behind the wheel, it fits best if you want a performance-first Civic rather than a commuter-minded one. With 36.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R reliable?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is presented as a car you can count on for strong performance and everyday usability, with owners describing it as impressive, fun, and responsive.

The owner feedback also points to a trouble-free-feeling driving experience in the sense that the car’s appeal centers on its performance and handling rather than recurring complaints about the powertrain. The expert review reinforces that impression by noting composed road manners, a limited-slip differential, and a chassis that stays controlled even when driven hard.

Honda’s driver-assistance suite includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical dependability and more about how hard the car was driven and maintained before you buy it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a performance car that may have been driven aggressively. Focus on tire wear, brake condition, clutch feel, and signs of hard use inside and out.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin mixes bright red seats and red floor mats with a more mature exterior look, and the base setup still leans heavily on hard interior plastics rather than luxury touches.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 315 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, front-wheel drive, and a limited-slip differential.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and over-the-air software updates are not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: It returns 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Which 2023 Honda Civic Type R trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is offered in 1 trim level: Civic Type R.

Here's the short version:

The Civic Type R is the clear choice because it’s the only trim, and it already bundles the core performance hardware, the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and the full Honda Sensing suite. Since there isn’t a trim ladder to climb, your decision is really about finding the cleanest, best-maintained example at the right price.

Close attention to the safety package is still worthwhile, but there are no trim-level safety gaps to sort through here.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly when a strong listing appears.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 169 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,421, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R's resale value?

The current average of $44,088 sits slightly above last year's $43,833.

That small increase suggests the Type R has held its value well rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is a good sign because it points to steady demand and a market that has not softened much.

The narrow gap between the current average and the year-ago figure also implies that depreciation has been restrained. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a reasonable shot at a healthy resale position later.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R safe?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has not been crash-tested by either NHTSA or IIHS, but the related 2022 Civic earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS and the 2023 Civic Hatchback earned a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation.

The main caveat is that the car’s performance-first personality can tempt you to drive harder than you should, so the safety story depends partly on how responsibly you use it.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Civic Type R or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• The 2023 model year delivers the Type R’s more mature character, added power, and the strong mix of performance and everyday usability highlighted in the expert summary.

The bottom line: If you want the Type R experience now, the 2023 is the right path because it combines strong market stability with the performance-focused character that defines the car. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for a lower-mileage or lower-priced example, since the market still offers some room to find a better-than-average deal.
