The Honda Civic is one of the most iconic cars of all time, and the automaker gave it a full overhaul in 2022 to stay relevant. The updates brought refined styling and a much-improved interior, moving the Civic up the food chain a bit. As it always has, Honda will offer the Civic only in front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration, and the manual transmission option has been cut from the standard lineup. The Si and Type R are now the only Civics offered with a manual gearbox. Honda’s interior improvements brought a clean cabin with upscale touches throughout. The air vents are hidden behind a continuous metal grate in the dash, and the air adjustment levers offer pleasing heft and visual appeal. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but Honda also offers leather, and the cabin feels nice in all formats. The front seats are wide, deep, and well-padded, and the Civic is one of few small cars with a comfortable, usable back seat. The center console is wider, and all controls are within easy reach of the driver. The Civic comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, or an available 9-inch unit in higher trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and cars equipped with the larger display get wireless connectivity. A 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster is available, offering some degree of configuration, but not to the level that Volkswagen and Audi provide with the Virtual Cockpit system. The 2023 Civic earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This included “Good” scores in all crash test areas except for the IIHS’ new side crash test, where the Civic earned an “Acceptable” score. The car’s headlights earned a “Good” score, and its front crash prevention systems earned “Superior” ratings. LATCH system ease of use grabbed a “Good+” score for making it exceedingly easy to install car seats. The 2023 Honda Civic is available now, and the car can be configured on the automaker’s website. The base Civic Sport Sedan starts at $25,745, and the Hatchback starts at $26,545. The EX Sedan starts at $27,145, and the EX-L Hatch starts at $28,845. Stepping up to the Touring trim brings the price to $30,745, and the top Sport Touring Hatchback clocks in at $31,645.
