How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 5.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,767 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for used-car shoppers.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, fun driving experience, stylish design, and reliable, affordable character. The trade-offs are that it could use more power and more USB ports, and the expert review also points to outdated technology. For you, that means the Civic makes the most sense if you want a practical compact car with broad appeal, strong value, and a well-rounded ownership experience rather than the newest infotainment setup. Good and great deals account for 33.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Owners describe it as reliable, and the review summary also points to a dependable, affordable ownership experience with a reputation you can count on. The expert review reinforces that impression by emphasizing Honda’s value and longevity, along with smooth, quick-revving powertrains that feel well sorted in daily use. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is less about core durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

At 53.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior body damage or multiple owners. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you want. Because the Civic was sold in multiple body styles and powertrains, it’s worth confirming that the specific version you’re considering fits your needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic comes in three body styles—sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback—and the base LX is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more convenience and comfort features. If you want the best value, look for a trim that balances equipment with price rather than paying for extras you won’t use.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 158 horsepower on the base LX and uplevel Sport, plus a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 with 174 hp on EX and above. The hatchback Sport and Sport Touring make 180 hp, and the Si uses a 205-hp version of the 1.5-liter engine.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on Si models and available across the lineup, and the Civic earned strong crash-test results overall.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard on all models except the base LX, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is described as outdated and slower than newer Honda setups, so that’s worth checking if tech matters to you.
• Fuel efficiency: The base LX sedan is rated at 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, while most CVT-equipped Civic models reach at least 30 mpg city and as high as 42 mpg highway. The Si is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and Si.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic’s core value proposition at the lowest price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most affordable path into the lineup and don’t need the extra equipment found higher up.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment and keeps the Civic’s broad appeal intact without jumping into the more specialized Si. It’s the trim to target if you want a stronger mix of features and price.
• Si: This is the enthusiast choice, with the turbocharged 205-hp engine, a manual transmission, and a more performance-focused setup. It suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than comfort-first shopping.

Honda Sensing is standard on Si models and available on the rest of the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,767 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,330, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $18,519 sits slightly below last year's $19,666.

That price movement suggests the Civic has softened enough to create a better entry point for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to drift. The model’s broad appeal, strong value reputation, and steady demand help support resale, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. If you buy smart now, you’re more likely to own a car that remains easy to move later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories, except for a four-star passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The Civic also benefits from improved optional LED headlights, which helped it earn the IIHS recognition. The main caveat is that the coupe’s passenger frontal crash rating is lower than the rest of the car’s NHTSA results.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks, more standard safety and convenience features, and more manual transmissions are the standout changes for this year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,121, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $18,519 average.
• It keeps the Civic’s style, value, and performance formula with only minor updates.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,173, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,519 average.
• It is the last of its generation before a redesign arrives.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want the best mix of price, features, and broad availability. If your priority is spending less, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want the outgoing generation’s final-year appeal, the 2021 is the alternative to compare.
