Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Bronco stands out as one of the most capable off-road vehicles you can buy, while still offering enough everyday versatility to appeal to a wide range of shoppers. It comes in two- or four-door body styles across nine distinct models, giving buyers plenty of ways to tailor the Bronco to their needs. That flexibility, combined with its rugged and stylish design, helps explain why it remains such a desirable vehicle.
What makes the 2023 Ford Bronco especially appealing is that it is described as being equally at home on the highway or scaling mountains. That balance of on-road usability and serious trail ability is a major part of its appeal. At the same time, it does have some drawbacks: advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is below average.

Good value but no hard top available for a year or more so I can’t put a roof rack on for my kayak or roof box etc. Didn’t like how the back window can’t open if putting larger things in the trunk. Not practical for my current needs.

Generally — 4.27/5 from owners, which points to strong overall satisfaction. It also earns an expert rating of 8.00/10.

Is the 2023 Ford Bronco reliable?
Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as dependable and trouble-free in the ways that matter most to them, especially when it comes to enjoying the vehicle over the long haul. The Bronco’s rugged build and strong owner enthusiasm also suggest that many buyers feel confident counting on it for regular use.
Its performance and durability-focused engineering reinforce that impression, with the vehicle built to handle demanding conditions without losing its composure on pavement. For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is making sure a hard-used example has been maintained properly and not worn down by off-road abuse.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the Bronco has seen trail use or heavy modification. Focus on wear items that can reveal how hard the vehicle has been used, including tires, suspension components, interior trim, and underbody condition.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim has a decidedly bare-bones look with steel wheels and little adornment, while higher trims add more personality and capability. The lineup also includes the Heritage trim with a throwback white grille, roof, and wheels, plus unique plaid seat upholstery, and the Heritage Limited trim builds on that theme.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, an optional 2.7-liter V6 with 330 hp and 415 lb-ft, or a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 in the Raptor with 418 hp and 440 lb-ft. The Bronco also comes with four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case.
- Safety package: All Broncos include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, but it is not available on the Base model.
- Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Ford’s SYNC 4. Most Broncos come with an eight-inch touchscreen, though a 12-inch display is available and easier to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder is estimated at up to 20 mpg combined, the 2.7-liter V6 is rated at 17-18 mpg, and the Raptor is estimated at 15 mpg.
Which 2023 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford Bronco is offered in 9 trim levels: Base, Heritage, Heritage Limited, Black Diamond, and Raptor.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the most affordable way into the Bronco, but it is also the most stripped-down. It suits you if you want the Bronco experience first and foremost and plan to add equipment selectively.
- Heritage: This is the best-value style-focused choice if you want the retro look without going all the way to the top of the range. It adds the throwback design cues that make the Bronco stand out.
- Heritage Limited: Choose this if you want the Heritage theme with a more upscale, more exclusive feel. It is the more charming but more capable take on the retro-inspired idea.
- Black Diamond: This is the trim to target if you want a strong middle ground between comfort and off-road ability. It is the one the data points to as the best balance, especially if you want to add the Sasquatch package for extra off-road upgrades.
- Raptor: This is the extreme choice if you want maximum power and the most aggressive hardware. It is overkill for most shoppers, but it is the right pick if you want the most capable and most dramatic Bronco.
The Mid package is not available on the Base trim, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, shop above that level.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,896 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.35% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $42,035.44, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Bronco's resale value?
The current average of $42,036 sits slightly below last year's $45,864.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, trim desirability, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Because the Bronco remains desirable and has strong owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should continue to attract buyers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco safe?
The four-door Bronco earns four-star ratings in frontal crash protection and three-star ratings for rollover protection from NHTSA. The IIHS awarded it Good scores in all crashworthiness tests except head restraints and seats, where it received Acceptable.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
All Bronco models come standard with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, while the High package adds front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system. The Luxe package adds adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.
The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, and the crash-test results are only partial from NHTSA. That means you should pay close attention to which package a used Bronco has before you buy.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.35% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds heritage-inspired variants and keeps the Bronco’s broad mix of rugged style and everyday versatility.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $38,205, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $42,036 average.
- It offers broad appeal with strong off-road ability and better pavement manners than many rivals.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $45,465, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $42,036 average.
- It adds a standard 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system and a more modern cabin feel.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, availability, and feature-rich Bronco character, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want the newer infotainment setup, the 2024 is worth the extra money.
