Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Bronco stands out as one of the most capable off-road vehicles you can buy, while still feeling at home on the highway. It offers a choice of two or four doors across nine distinct models, giving shoppers a wide range of body styles and configurations to fit different needs. Its rugged, stylish design is a big part of the appeal, helping it feel both tough and fashionable.
That combination of personality and capability is what makes the 2023 Bronco especially distinctive. It is built for drivers who want serious trail performance without giving up everyday usability. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is below average.

Good value but no hard top available for a year or more so I can’t put a roof rack on for my kayak or roof box etc. Didn’t like how the back window can’t open if putting larger things in the trunk. Not practical for my current needs.

How much does the 2023 Ford Bronco cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $41,767 |
| Year-Round Low | $41,767 |
| Year-Round High | $45,693 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $45,694 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.59% |
Prices have softened 8.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,977 listings available, which suggests you have meaningful inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Ford Bronco earns 4.27/5 from owners and 8.00/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its off-road capability, comfort, and features, and they also like the rugged design and driving experience. The main trade-offs are pricing that can feel high and fuel efficiency that trails more conventional SUVs.
That fits the Bronco’s mission well: you’re shopping for a vehicle built around trail ability and everyday usability, not maximum efficiency or bargain pricing. With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco reliable?
Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in the ways Bronco shoppers care about most, especially for off-road use and day-to-day enjoyment. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that it remains comfortable and composed enough for highway driving, which supports confidence in regular use.
If you plan to keep one long term, the bigger ownership risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about choosing the right configuration and maintaining it carefully for the kind of use you expect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the Bronco has seen trail use. Focus on signs of underbody wear, tire condition, and evidence of hard off-road driving, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most on this model.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim is the most bare-bones version, while the Raptor sits at the top with a wider stance, elevated height, and massive tires. The Heritage trim adds a throwback grille, roof, wheels, and plaid seat upholstery, and the Heritage Limited is described as the more capable version of that theme.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, an optional 2.7-liter V6 with 330 hp and 415 lb-ft, or a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 in the Raptor with 418 hp and 440 lb-ft. The four-cylinder can be paired with a seven-speed manual or 10-speed automatic, while the 2.7-liter V6 is automatic-only.
- Safety package: All Broncos include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, but it is not available on the Base model.
- Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Ford’s SYNC 4. Most Broncos come with an eight-inch touchscreen, and a 12-inch display is available.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder is estimated at up to 20 mpg combined and can drop to 17 mpg depending on options. The 2.7-liter V6 is rated at 17-18 mpg, and the Raptor is estimated at 15 mpg.
Which 2023 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford Bronco is offered in 9 trim levels: Base, Black Diamond, Heritage, Heritage Limited, Badlands, Wildtrak, Outer Banks, Everglades, and Raptor.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the least expensive way into the Bronco, but it is also the most stripped-down. It makes sense if you want the Bronco experience at the lowest entry price and plan to add equipment carefully.
- Black Diamond: This is the best-value trim to consider if you want a middle ground between pavement comfort and off-road capability. It is the trim the cost-effectiveness guidance points to as the sweet spot, and it is a smart place to start if you want capability without jumping to the pricier specialty models.
- Heritage: Choose this if the retro look matters to you. It adds the nostalgic white grille, roof, and wheels, plus unique plaid seat upholstery.
- Heritage Limited: This is the more capable version of the Heritage theme, so it suits you if you want the styling upgrade but also want a step up in capability.
- Badlands: This is the trim to target if you want a more serious off-road setup and are considering the Sasquatch package for additional trail upgrades.
- Wildtrak: This is for shoppers who want a more performance-oriented Bronco setup without going all the way to the Raptor.
- Outer Banks: This is the more style- and comfort-focused choice for buyers who want a Bronco that leans a bit more toward everyday use.
- Everglades: This is the trim for buyers who want a more specialized off-road flavor and are drawn to the Bronco’s more adventurous side.
- Raptor: This is the top dog, with the widest stance, elevated height, and huge fender flares over massive tires. It is the one to buy if you want the most extreme Bronco and are willing to pay for it.
The Mid package is not available on the Base trim, so if you want more driver-assistance features, you’ll need to move up from there.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,977 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $41,767, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Bronco's resale value?
The current average of $41,767 sits slightly below last year's $45,694.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled from a year ago, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than assuming the market will keep rising.
Because the Bronco still has strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal, well-kept examples should continue to draw interest. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco safe?
The 2023 Ford Bronco earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it Good scores in all crashworthiness tests except head restraints and seats, where it received Acceptable.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
All Broncos come standard with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, while the High package adds front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system. The Luxe package adds adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.
The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you may need to move up in trim or add packages to get the broader driver-assistance coverage you want.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Heritage-inspired variants add fresh styling to the lineup.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,737, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $41,767 average.
- It offers serious off-road ability with broad model choice.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $45,375, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $41,767 average.
- It adds a standard 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and updated appeal, the 2023 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the better value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the newer equipment and are willing to pay more.
