Is the 2023 Dodge Charger a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Dodge Charger earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the Charger’s powerful performance, comfortable seating, and spacious interior. The car’s bold styling and distinctive presence also come through strongly in owner feedback, which fits its role as a full-size sedan with a memorable personality.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the expert review calls out outdated technology and poor fuel economy, and it also notes an underwhelming base engine. That makes the Charger a better fit if you value character, space, and muscle-car feel more than modern gadgetry or efficiency.

The Charger’s appeal is strongest if you want a spacious, comfortable sedan with a muscular feel and a distinctive presence. Good and great deals account for 30.3% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Dodge Charger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to the Charger being dependable and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time, with several reviews emphasizing its strong performance and comfortable daily use. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the powertrain as old-school but proven, with a transmission that shifts smoothly and a drivetrain that is built around familiar mechanical hardware.

The cost-effectiveness notes also mention that the Charger’s long production run and enthusiast demand support its staying power in the market. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related wear and maintenance costs may matter more than outright mechanical complexity.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Dodge Charger?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because the Charger’s age means condition can vary widely from one example to the next. Focus especially on how well the interior, electronics, and wear items have held up, since those are the areas most likely to show age.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Charger is described as a bit drab on small skinny tires, while V8 versions look the part much more convincingly. The Swinger adds widebody fenders, 20-inch wheels, bronze wheels, black brake calipers, and distinctive retro-themed styling details.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 292 or 300 horsepower depending on trim and pairs with all-wheel drive, while R/T models use a 5.7-liter V8 with 370 hp and Scat Pack models use a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp. The eight-speed automatic is a standout, and the V6 can return up to 30 mpg on the highway.
• Safety package: Rear parking sensors and a backup camera are standard. Forward collision warning with emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control are optional on SXT, GT, R/T, and Scatpack models and unavailable on Hellcats. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is optional only on GT, R/T, and Scatpacks.
• Infotainment: The Charger uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, voice recognition, and SiriusXM. It does not get the latest Uconnect system, big screens, over-the-air updates, or phone-based starting.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 can deliver up to 30 mpg on the highway, while the 5.7-liter V8 can shut down half its cylinders for a 25-mpg-rated highway cruise. The expert review also calls out poor fuel economy overall.

Which 2023 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2023 Dodge Charger is offered in 1 trim level: Charger Swinger.

Here's the short version:

The Swinger is the one explicitly described in the available data, and it leans hard into the Charger’s final-year personality with the widebody kit, bronze wheels, black brake calipers, and retro-themed details. It suits you best if you want the most distinctive, enthusiast-focused version of the car rather than a plain commuter setup.

The safety content notes that forward collision warning with emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control are optional on SXT, GT, R/T, and Scatpack models and unavailable on Hellcats.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Dodge Charger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still need to move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,504 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 16.08% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 78.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,130, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $35,137 sits slightly above last year's $30,270.

That price increase suggests the Charger has held buyer interest well, which can help support resale strength if you own one for the short to medium term. The model’s final-year status and enthusiast appeal also make it more likely to attract shoppers who want a distinctive gas-powered sedan rather than a generic commuter car.

For a future seller, that means condition, trim, and equipment matter a lot. Well-kept examples with desirable performance hardware should be easier to position in the market than plain versions with less compelling equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2023 Dodge Charger earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for the driver and passenger in a frontal crash, four-star ratings for the driver in side barrier and pole intrusion tests, and five-star ratings for the rear passengers in those side tests. The IIHS gives it top Good ratings in many categories.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Rear parking sensors and a backup camera are standard, but the camera is described as fuzzy.

The main caveat is that the IIHS results are based on a 2015 Chrysler 300, so they may not fully reflect the Charger itself. That age-related uncertainty is worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 16.08% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the final-year Charger, with a sendoff feel and limited-edition special models.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,035, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $35,137 average.
• It offers modern muscle-car performance with easier-to-use technology.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the final-year Charger experience and are willing to pay more for it. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the smarter value play because it delivers much of the same personality for less.
