BMW offers upgrades for the M5’s interior, such as LED ambient interior lighting, ventilated front seats with massage, quad-zone climate controls, and a heated steering wheel. Though not a huge car, the M5 offers great practicality in its deep, wide trunk, and the rear seats fold flat to open the area for larger items like golf clubs. Tech is strong, and it includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen running BMW’s iDrive 8 system. The interface offers responsive menus and a simplified design that reduces distraction while driving. Users can interact with the system via touch, voice, gestures, or rotary dial, and there are few tasks that require more than a tap or two to accomplish. Standard driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, forward-collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warnings, and lane-keep assist. Adaptive cruise control is available. The 2023 BMW M5 starts at around $110,000. Competitors include the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, Audi RS7, and Porsche Panamera Turbo. The Cadillac is its most direct competition, with a raging supercharged V8 and an available manual transmission. The Caddy is also a sharp handler, reminding many of the prowess BMW demonstrated with early M5 models. Mercedes-AMG also offers the E 53 and E 63 S, but only the E 53 is currently available for sale in the United States.
