How much does the 2023 BMW M4 cost?

Prices have softened 4.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 384 listings available, which suggests a modest but workable pool of used M4s to compare.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW M4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

It stands out as a performance-focused coupe and convertible with real motorsport credibility, and BMW’s GT3 and GT4 racing use reinforces that identity. For you, that means the M4 is aimed squarely at driving enthusiasts who want more than straight-line speed.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, and the CSL version is limited in availability. Even so, the car’s multiple body styles and manual transmission broaden its appeal if you want a high-performance BMW with a more involved driving experience.

34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The M4 is presented as a focused performance car that still carries BMW’s attention to detail, and its twin-turbo six-cylinder is described as a more efficient option than the V8 in the previous M3. That said, the model’s fuel economy is still poor, so your ownership experience is likely to be shaped more by performance priorities than by low running costs.

The performance setup is built around a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, and the CSL’s weight-reduction approach is meant to preserve driver involvement rather than add complexity for its own sake. If you buy used, the main long-term risk is that a high-performance car like this can be expensive to live with if you want it to stay in top condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a performance coupe can hide hard use even when it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of track use, and whether the car has been maintained consistently. Pay close attention to condition if you’re considering a CSL or another higher-output version, since rarity can make examples harder to replace.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is largely shared with the base 4 Series, but the M4 adds a beefier M steering wheel, Merino leather seats with increased side bolstering, and optional carbon-fiber trim. More hardcore carbon-fiber bucket seats are available too, with fixed-back versions on the CSL.
• Powertrain: The standard M4 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six with 473 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission, while the Competition version increases output to 503 hp and uses an eight-speed automatic. The CSL keeps the turbo six and raises output to 543 hp, with a lighter-weight focus.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of a Driving Assistance Professional Package for M4 Competition models.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a head-up display, and BMW iDrive 7.0.
• Fuel efficiency: The RWD M4 coupe and M4 Competition coupe are rated at 19 mpg combined, with 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. The AWD-only M4 Competition convertible and RWD-only M4 CSL are rated at 18 mpg combined.

Which 2023 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW M4 is offered in 3 trim levels: M4 coupe, M4 Competition coupe, and M4 CSL.

Here's the short version:

• M4 coupe: This is the one to start with if you want the manual transmission and the most direct connection to the car’s driving character. It gives you the core M4 experience without stepping into the higher-output Competition or the limited-edition CSL.
• M4 Competition coupe: This is the best-value choice if you want more power and quicker acceleration, especially if you’re comfortable giving up the manual for the automatic. It adds the stronger output and is the trim to consider if you want the broadest mix of performance and everyday usability.
• M4 CSL: This is the enthusiast pick if you want the most extreme version of the lineup. It’s lighter, more powerful, and fitted with serious hardware changes, but it also sacrifices everyday practicality and is much harder to find.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that several driver-assistance features are not standard and require the Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep bargains everywhere.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 384 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.11% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $71,525, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $71,751 sits slightly below last year's $74,825.

That tells you the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper short-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. Even so, the M4’s performance reputation and enthusiast appeal should help it remain desirable relative to more ordinary used coupes. Limited-edition and well-kept examples are likely to hold attention better than higher-mileage cars with visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 safe?

The 2023 BMW M4 earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are available through a Driving Assistance Professional Package for M4 Competition models, so you may need to step up a trim or option package to get the fuller driver-assistance suite.

One important caveat is that crash test ratings were not published for this model year, so you should lean more heavily on the available safety equipment and the car’s condition history when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model year adds the limited-edition M4 CSL, giving this year extra exclusivity.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $68,939, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $71,751 average.
• It emphasizes engaging driving feel and strong technology.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of this generation and don’t mind paying a bit more, the 2023 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money while still getting the core M4 experience, the 2022 is the smarter value play.
