CarGurus Analysis: 2023 BMW M2
overall

Summary
With 145 currently listed for sale and an average price of $65,387.00, 30.3% of 2023 BMW M2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 BMW M2 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
93.1% of 2023 BMW M2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 BMW M2 stands out as a more focused performance machine, and it still aims to be a thrilling daily driver. For enthusiasts, that combination is part of its appeal: it delivers the kind of rear-wheel-drive, straight-six internal-combustion connection that is becoming harder to find, while remaining functional enough for everyday use. BMW also gave it a complete redesign, along with bolder styling, so it no longer plays the semi-sleeper role it once did.
On the road, the 2023 BMW M2 is defined by blistering acceleration and scalpel-like handling. It also earns points for a functional cockpit, an actually-usable trunk, and easy-to-use technology, which helps explain why it can work as more than just a weekend toy. The tradeoffs are real, though: the ride is stiff in normal driving, it takes a bit of effort to enter and exit, and the styling will not be to everyone’s taste.

Fast and just plain fun to drive. More tech than the older model M2 with lines similar to other late model BMWs. The 6 speed manual on this model adds more control and driving thrills for those with more traditional sensibilities.

IMO this is the closest thing BMW has achieved in terms of driving experience and fun since the 1M and E30 M3. Exceptional car, instant classic.

Is the 2023 BMW M2 a good car?
Yes — 5/5 from users and 8.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Technology.
The 2023 BMW M2 is a more focused performance machine that still aims to work as a daily driver, and that balance is a big part of its appeal. It delivers the rear-wheel-drive, straight-six connection you want in a purist sports car, while still offering a functional cockpit, an actually-usable trunk, and easy-to-use technology.
The trade-offs are clear: the ride is stiff in normal driving, and it takes some effort to enter and exit. Styling is also polarizing, so this is a car you buy for the driving experience first.
With 35.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a meaningful amount of market opportunity if you’re shopping carefully.
Is the 2023 BMW M2 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2023 BMW M2 is built around a twin-turbo inline-six, rear-wheel drive, and a standard limited-slip differential, which points to a focused mechanical setup rather than a complicated one.
Its performance hardware is straightforward for the segment, and BMW also gives you easy-to-use tech and a practical cabin, which can help reduce day-to-day frustration over time. The available maintenance perk language is not present in the provided data.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is a high-performance car with a stiff ride and specialized hardware, so condition and maintenance history matter more than they would on a mainstream coupe.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, because a clean market average does not guarantee a clean individual listing. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or modified, and focus on wear items that reflect how the car was used. Pay close attention to seat condition, wheel and tire wear, brake condition, and any signs that the car has seen track-style driving.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is well equipped even in standard form, with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, Vernasca leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and a power sunroof. The optional Carbon Package adds carbon-fiber interior trim, carbon-fiber paddle shifters, an M Carbon roof, and M Carbon bucket seats, so base cars will feel less specialized than heavily optioned ones.
- Powertrain: The M2 uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. You can get either a six-speed manual with rev-matching or an eight-speed automatic, and both route power to the rear wheels through a standard Active M limited-slip differential.
- Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The available Lighting Package adds automatic high beams and adaptive LED headlights, while active cruise control that can stop and go is only available with the automatic transmission.
- Infotainment: The curved display pairs a 10.25-inch touchscreen with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel. You also get wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and over-the-air-friendly modern interface logic through BMW’s iDrive 8 setup.

Which 2023 BMW M2 trim should I buy?
The 2023 BMW M2 is offered in 1 trim level: M2.
Here's the short version:
The M2 gives you the full core experience right away, including the twin-turbo inline-six, rear-wheel drive, a manual or automatic transmission at no extra cost, and a standard limited-slip differential. It also brings the easy-to-use iDrive 8 interface, wireless smartphone integration, and a strong standard safety suite, so it already feels well equipped without needing to climb a trim ladder.
If you want the most distinctive version, the optional Carbon Package is worth noting because it adds carbon-fiber trim, carbon-fiber paddle shifters, an M Carbon roof, and M Carbon bucket seats. That said, the standard car is still the best-value starting point because it already delivers the performance and tech that define the M2.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M2?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 151 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 92.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $62,853.76, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 BMW M2 safe?
The 2023 BMW M2 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The available Lighting Package adds automatic high beams and adaptive LED headlights, and active cruise control that can stop and go with traffic is available only with the automatic transmission.
A useful safety strength is the car’s tallish greenhouse and normal-sized pillars, which give you terrific sight lines. The main caveat is that some helpful features are not standard, so you’ll want to check the equipment list carefully on any used example.
Should I buy a 2023 BMW M2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 BMW M2 is a completely redesigned, more focused performance machine with bolder styling, blistering acceleration, and scalpel-like handling.
The bottom line: If you want the sharper, more focused M2 experience and you value performance above comfort, the 2023 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2023 already delivers the core M2 formula with strong tech, strong safety equipment, and real daily-driver usability.
