How much does the 2023 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,830 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used examples to compare.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 8.67/10 expert rating both point to a strong overall package. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The 2023 3 Series stands out as a refreshed version of BMW’s best-selling car, with sportier styling, interior design updates, and technology upgrades. It keeps the driver-oriented cockpit focus while adding sleeker styling and a broader dose of new technology, which helps it remain competitive in the sports sedan segment.

The trade-offs are straightforward: you do not get a manual transmission, and the interior materials can feel cheap. Even so, it remains a polished, comfortable sports sedan for buyers who want updated design and modern tech.

With 38.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 3 Series is presented as a refined, driver-focused sedan with a quiet cabin and great ride quality, which supports the sense that it should be easy to live with over time. Its updated technology and polished road manners also suggest a well-rounded ownership experience.

The performance side is anchored by a twin-turbo four-cylinder in the 330i and 330e and a twin-turbo inline-six in the M340i, all paired with an eight-speed automatic. That mix gives you a range of choices without changing the core formula.

BMW also notes that the 3 Series is built around modern convenience and efficiency, including over-the-air updates and a system designed to be easy to use. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with added packages or higher mileage. Focus on overall condition, because the 3 Series can vary a lot depending on how it was optioned and maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 330i, 330e, and M340i each bring different equipment and character. The 330i is the entry point, while the M340i adds more aggressive exterior details and stronger performance; the 330e is the plug-in hybrid choice.
• Powertrain: The 330i and 330e use a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the M340i uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and xDrive all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard safety includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard, and the Active Protection System. The Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on BMW iDrive 8 with a 27.2-inch curved display made up of a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air updates are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i is rated at 25 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. The 330e returns 28 combined mpg on gas and 75 MPGe combined in electric mode, with up to 22 miles of electric-only range. The M340i is rated at 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined mpg.

Which 2023 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 3 Series experience at the lowest entry price. It gives you the refreshed styling, the curved iDrive 8 display, and the standard driver-focused cabin without stepping up to the pricier performance trims.
• 330e: Choose this if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the ability to drive on electric power for short trips. It suits you best if commuting fuel savings matter more than outright performance.
• M340i: Pick this if you want the strongest performance in the lineup. It adds the inline-six, quicker acceleration, and more aggressive visual details, making it the right choice if you want the most athletic version.

The Driving Assistance Package and Driving Assistance Professional Package are optional, so check whether a used example has the safety equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,830 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,372, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $34,372 sits slightly below last year's $36,988.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than average, especially if they present cleanly and have strong service records. Cars that are accident-free and properly maintained should be easier to move later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a five-star crash safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard with frontal collision warning and automatic city collision mitigation and braking, and the Active Protection System with automatic seat belt pretensioners, automatic window and moonroof closing, post-crash braking, and fatigue/focus alert.

The Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro, which combines lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assistant, and evasion aid.

IIHS has not yet rated the 2023 model, and the previous model year missed the top-tier distinction because of a Poor headlights result.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s 2023 refresh brings sleeker styling, a curved display, and updated tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,526, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $34,372 average.
• It is a familiar, tech-forward luxury sports sedan with easy-to-use technology.

The bottom line: If you want the updated cabin, refreshed styling, and stronger market selection, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in clean condition with the equipment you want.
