How much does the 2023 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.42% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,889 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The 2023 refresh gives you sportier styling, an updated driver-focused cabin, and modern tech, while keeping the 3 Series’ everyday luxury-sedan formula intact. It stands out for its stylish design, great ride quality, and quiet cabin, which makes it appealing if you want a compact luxury sedan that still feels engaging.

The main trade-offs are that a manual transmission is not available and some interior materials feel cheap. If you value a polished daily driver with a sporty edge more than a purist driving setup, those compromises may be easy to live with.

There are 36.2% good or great deals in the market, which points to decent shopping opportunities.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 3 Series is presented as a refined, well-rounded luxury sedan with a quiet cabin and strong everyday usability, which supports confidence for used buyers. Its powertrains are carried over, and the car’s overall formula remains familiar rather than experimental.

The performance setup is straightforward: you get a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the 330i and 330e, plus a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six in the M340i, all paired with an eight-speed automatic. The 330i is described as quiet and competent in daily driving, while the broader lineup keeps the car feeling balanced rather than overly complicated.

BMW also includes over-the-air updates, which can help keep the software current. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is less about the basic formula and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, electronics, and any signs of uneven wear. Since this model’s appeal depends heavily on its tech and driving feel, make sure the car’s features work as intended and that the interior matches the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 330i, 330e, and M340i differ in styling, equipment, and performance, with the M340i getting trim-exclusive exterior details and the 330i and 330e sharing some package availability. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to which appearance and convenience features are missing.
• Powertrain: You get a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the 330i and 330e, with electric assist for the 330e, and a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six in the M340i. The 330e adds up to 22 miles of electric-only range, while the M340i is the quickest option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard, and the Active Protection System. The Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings, while the Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro.
• Infotainment: You get BMW iDrive 8 with a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, plus wireless-style convenience through voice control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air updates. Available upgrades include wireless device charging, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, and a wireless 5G hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i is rated at 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, the 330e gets 75 MPGe combined in electric mode and 28 mpg combined on gas, and the M340i returns 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Which 2023 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 3 Series experience with the 255-horsepower turbo four, strong fuel economy, and the same refreshed cabin and tech as the rest of the lineup.
• 330e: Choose this if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the ability to drive on electric power for short trips, while still keeping the 3 Series’ luxury-sedan character.
• M340i: Pick this if you want the strongest performance and the most upscale-feeling version of the lineup, with the added power of the inline-six and trim-exclusive styling details.

The Driving Assistance Package and Driving Assistance Professional Package are optional, so check whether a used example has the safety equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,889 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,676, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $33,676 sits slightly below last year's $36,375.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to resell later, a lower purchase price can reduce the amount of value you need to recover.

The 3 Series still has strong appeal because it combines luxury, tech, and everyday usability in a familiar package. That kind of broad demand can help support future resale, especially if you choose a well-equipped, clean-history example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a five-star crash safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard with frontal collision warning and automatic city collision mitigation and braking, and the Active Protection System with automatic seat belt pretensioners, automatic window and moonroof closing, post-crash braking, and fatigue/focus alert.

If you want more driver assistance, the Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro, including lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assistant, and evasion aid.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s 2023 refresh brings a new infotainment system, a redesigned dashboard, and a curved display that modernizes the cabin.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,147, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,676 average.
• It offers multiple powertrain choices and a familiar, easy-to-use tech setup.

The bottom line: If you want the newer cabin, updated tech, and stronger market availability, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one with the equipment and condition you want.
