How much does the 2023 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,831 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.67/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The 2023 3 Series is a refreshed version of BMW’s best-selling car, with sportier styling, interior design updates, and technology upgrades. It keeps the sports-sedan formula intact while adding a more current cabin and a driver-focused layout, which makes it appealing if you want an everyday luxury sedan that still feels engaging.

The trade-offs are straightforward: you do not get a manual transmission, and some interior materials feel cheap. Those drawbacks matter most if you prioritize a more premium-feeling cabin or want a stick-shift driving experience.

Good and great deals make up 37.6% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 3 Series is built around a familiar BMW sports-sedan formula, and the expert review highlights its quiet cabin, great ride quality, and modernized interior as strengths. It also keeps the brand’s driver-centric character, which can help it feel composed and easy to live with over time.

The performance notes point to a well-rounded setup rather than a fragile one: the 330i is quiet and precise in normal driving, and the lineup includes stronger variants if you want more pace. The cost-effectiveness notes also show that BMW packages the car with a premium feature set, which can support day-to-day usability.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-end features and packages can make repairs and upkeep more expensive if the car was heavily optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, electronics, and any signs of hard use, especially if the car has premium packages or higher mileage. Pay close attention to whether the equipment you want is actually present, since several desirable features are bundled rather than standard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 330i is the entry point, while the 330e adds plug-in hybrid capability and the M340i brings the strongest performance and more distinctive exterior details. The base car already gets the curved-display iDrive 8 setup, but the M Sport package adds an M leather steering wheel and Aluminum Rhombicle Anthracite interior finish.
• Powertrain: The 330i uses a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the 330e pairs that engine with electric assist, and the M340i uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and xDrive all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard and includes frontal collision warning plus automatic city collision mitigation and braking. The Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings, while the Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro.
• Infotainment: BMW iDrive 8 is standard, with a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen in the curved display. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, over-the-air updates, and enhanced Bluetooth are included, while wireless device charging is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i is rated at 25 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. The 330e returns 28 mpg combined on gas and 75 MPGe combined in electric mode, while the M340i is rated at 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined.

Which 2023 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 330i, 330e, and M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 3 Series experience at the lowest entry price. You get the refreshed styling, the curved-display iDrive 8 setup, and the balanced ride-and-handling character that defines the car.
• 330e: Choose this if you want plug-in hybrid capability and the electric-only driving range that comes with it. It makes the most sense if your routine includes short trips and you can take advantage of charging.
• M340i: Pick this if you want the strongest performance and the most upscale sporting character in the lineup. It is the right choice if you care more about speed and power than keeping the purchase price down.

The Driving Assistance Package and Driving Assistance Professional Package are optional, so check whether the safety equipment you want is included on the specific car you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,831 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,030, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $34,030 sits slightly below last year's $36,897.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you better buying leverage now than a year ago. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.

Because the model still has strong demand signals and a premium badge, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you improve your odds of holding value better over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a five-star crash safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard with frontal collision warning and automatic city collision mitigation and braking, and the Active Protection System with automatic seat belt pretensioners, automatic window and moonroof closing, post-crash braking, and fatigue/focus alert.

The Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro, which includes lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assistant, and evasion aid.

A key caveat is that the plug-in hybrid model does not have a listed NHTSA rating, and the available advanced driver-assistance features are bundled rather than fully standard.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed cabin, curved display, and updated tech make this year feel more modern.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,478, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $34,030 average.
• It blends everyday usability with a more engaging driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the more modern cabin, updated technology, and stronger market selection, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter value play and still delivers the core 3 Series formula.
