How much does the 2022 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 24.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,586 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, impressive safety features, and luxurious family-SUV feel. The review summary also points to hybrid technology and advanced handling as recurring strengths.

The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and sluggish touchscreen response, which can take some shine off the upscale experience. Even so, the XC90’s stylish design and quiet cabin help it stand out if you want a refined three-row SUV with a premium personality.

The market backs that up, with 40.1% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with praise centered on its spacious cabin, safety, and overall family-friendly usability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the XC90 is built around a safety-first, confidence-inspiring driving experience, which supports the sense that it’s a vehicle you can count on.

Volvo’s maintenance and ownership support can also help reduce hassle for some buyers, especially through its subscription program that includes maintenance and wear protection on eligible vehicles.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether prior owners kept up with maintenance and avoided costly wear items.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, touchscreen behavior, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim and packages advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Momentum starts the lineup, while higher trims add more luxury and equipment. The content also notes that ventilated front seats require Nappa leather, so base-level interior choices may leave you without some comfort features.
• Powertrain: You get T5, T6, and T8 powertrains. The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the T6 adds supercharging, and the T8 plug-in hybrid combines gasoline and electric power for the strongest output and the best efficiency.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist combines lane-centering, set-speed and following-distance support, and other driver-assistance functions. Standard equipment also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist front and rear, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, oncoming lane mitigation, and road-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen is a nine-inch portrait-oriented display, and the system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 12.3-inch digital instrument panel is also included, and the Advanced package adds a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: T5 FWD models are rated at 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined, T5 AWD models at 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway/23 mpg combined, and T6 AWD models at 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway/22 mpg combined. The T8 gets 27 mpg combined on gas and 55 MPGe with an 18-mile EV range, while the extended-range version gets 26 mpg combined, 66 MPGe, and up to 36 miles of EV range.

Which 2022 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC90 is offered in 7 trim levels: T5 FWD Momentum, T5 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Inscription, T8 Inscription Expression, T8 Inscription, T8 R-Design.

Here's the short version:

• T5 FWD Momentum: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core luxury-SUV experience at the lowest price. It’s the best-value starting point if you want the design, safety, and space without paying for extra power or premium extras.
• T5 AWD Momentum: Choose this if you want the same basic setup as the base trim but with all-wheel drive for added traction. It makes sense if you live where weather or road conditions matter more than outright performance.
• T6 AWD Momentum: This trim adds the stronger supercharged-and-turbocharged engine and standard AWD, so it’s the better pick if you want more punch without jumping into the pricier luxury trims.
• T6 AWD Inscription: This is the step-up choice if you want a more upscale feel and more premium equipment. It suits you if comfort and presentation matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
• T8 Inscription Expression: This is the plug-in hybrid entry point, so it’s the trim to target if you want electrified driving and better efficiency without going all the way to the top of the range.
• T8 Inscription: This is the best-value premium pick if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain plus a more luxurious trim experience. It’s the sweet spot for shoppers who want the XC90’s upscale character and efficiency together.
• T8 R-Design: This is the most expressive trim in the lineup, and it’s the one to consider if you want the plug-in hybrid setup with a sportier appearance and top-end positioning.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the Advanced package adds a head-up display, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and an advanced air cleaner.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

It’s a buyer-friendly moment if you’re shopping this SUV, because pricing has moved down and inventory is still healthy.

• Deal availability: 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,586 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,309, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $29,309 sits slightly below last year's $38,939.

That drop suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and worrying about near-term value loss. For a future seller, the upside is that the market has already reset lower, so a well-kept example may be easier to position competitively if it’s clean and well equipped.

Strong equipment, a desirable trim, and a documented service history should help your listing stand out when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2022 XC90 received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick+ designation and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The XC90 comes with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist front and rear, rain-sensing wipers with integrated washers, slippery road alert, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, oncoming lane mitigation, and road-sign recognition. Pilot Assist combines several of those functions to help keep the vehicle centered and maintain speed or following distance on highways.

That combination makes the XC90 especially appealing if safety is a top priority for your family. The only caveat is that some of its assistance features still require active driver supervision, so you should treat them as support systems rather than self-driving tech.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs a stylish three-row layout with strong safety and available plug-in hybrid appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,418, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,309 average.
• It offers a refined, safety-focused luxury SUV with minimal changes.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $38,524, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $29,309 average.
• It brings updated mild-hybrid powertrains and more forward-thinking infotainment.

The bottom line: the 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want the XC90’s safety, style, and available electrification at a more attractive price than the newer model year. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the value play; if you want newer powertrain tech, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
