Used 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale near Ohio

How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 11.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,950 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.57/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its technology, safety features, comfort, and user-friendly interface. They also like its capability in different driving conditions and its solid overall performance. On the downside, some owners mention infotainment customization limits and concerns about build quality after accidents.

That lines up with the Tiguan’s role as a compact SUV that feels more substantial than many rivals and is aimed at shoppers who want everyday usefulness with a safety-first lean. The trade-off is that its performance and handling are not especially engaging.

With 38.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to reliability-adjacent strengths such as comfort, safety, practicality, and a trouble-free ownership experience. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Tiguan’s value-oriented setup and its standard maintenance coverage, which includes two years of complimentary scheduled maintenance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example, since condition and accident history matter a lot here.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, interior wear, and how well the technology and safety systems operate. Since the Tiguan’s appeal is tied to value and everyday usefulness, a clean, well-maintained example matters more than chasing the lowest sticker price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line. The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the higher trims add more upscale appearance and equipment, with the SEL R-Line bringing the richest cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Tiguan uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Front Assist and Side Assist are standard on the Tiguan S, and IQ Drive adds Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. Make sure the systems engage properly, especially because the touch-sensing steering wheel controls can be finicky.
• Infotainment: The base Tiguan S uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen with MIB2, while most other versions get an 8-inch MIB3 system. Wireless smartphone mirroring is not described here, but App-Connect, Car-Net connected services, and SiriusXM 360L are included with MIB3.
• Fuel efficiency: The R-Line with 4Motion is rated at no better than 24 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value entry point if you want the Tiguan’s core safety tech and standard equipment without paying for extra appearance or convenience upgrades. It gets Front Assist, Side Assist, heated front seats, push-button start, and the basic infotainment setup.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds remote engine start and moves you into a more complete everyday package without jumping all the way to the R-Line models.
• SE R-Line Black: Choose this if you want the sportier blacked-out look and a more distinctive appearance without going to the top trim.
• SEL R-Line: This is the most upscale choice, with the richest cabin, the larger Digital Cockpit Pro display, the upgraded infotainment and audio setup, and standard Park Assist.

Safety equipment is strongest on the lower trims where the standard driver-assistance suite is clearly defined, so compare feature content carefully before paying extra for appearance-focused upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,950 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.30% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,120, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $20,120 sits slightly below last year's $22,683.

That price movement suggests the Tiguan has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A softer market today can also mean less downside risk if you avoid overpaying now.

Because the model still has strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal, demand should remain reasonably steady among used SUV shoppers. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment should be easier to move later than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Front Assist, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and Side Assist with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, are standard on the Tiguan S. Volkswagen also includes Travel Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assistance, plus Emergency Assist, which can slow the SUV to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive.

One thing to watch is the touch-sensing steering wheel controls, which can make Travel Assist harder to activate reliably. Make sure the system engages properly during your test drive.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new safety technology while keeping the Tiguan’s roomy, value-focused formula.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,030, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,120 average.
• It emphasizes space and everyday usability with available AWD and lots of cargo room.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $22,146, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $20,120 average.
• It feels larger inside and offers a third-row seat.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety tech, and broad appeal, the 2022 is the smart default. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the better value play. If you want a newer-feeling cabin and can spend more, the 2023 is worth a look.
