Used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI for Sale nearChicago, IL

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI a good car?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI earns an 7.3/10 expert rating, and it is aimed at you if you want a sedan that keeps everyday usefulness while still making driving feel engaging. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

That balance shows up in the overview and test-drive notes: you get a manual transmission, plenty of cargo space, and a car that is described as fun to drive. The trade-offs are clear, too: all-wheel drive is not available, and it is judged to be poor value for money.

If you want a practical compact sedan with enthusiast appeal, the GLI’s mix of personality and usefulness is the point. The market signal is moderate, with 34.7% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI reliable?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is presented as a practical performance sedan that can handle commuting, errands, and road trips without giving up driver involvement. Its powertrain is described as excellent, with swift acceleration and smooth, quiet engine operation, and the adaptive dampers help it stay composed while still feeling sporty.

Volkswagen also adds useful ownership-friendly touches, including standard Car-Net connected services and automatic post-collision braking. The GLI’s maintenance and ownership picture is helped by its everyday usability, but the long-term risk for used buyers is that a performance-oriented sedan can still bring higher repair and upkeep exposure than a simpler commuter car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the transmission, brakes, suspension, and any signs of hard use. Pay close attention to overall condition, since this is a performance-oriented sedan and wear can show up faster on enthusiast-driven examples.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GLI sits at the top of the lineup, and the standard Autobahn Package brings perforated leather upholstery, a new steering wheel with touch-sensing buttons, and other upscale touches. The touch-sensitive controls can be distracting because glare and reflections can make them hard to use.
• Powertrain: The GLI uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. It also uses a torque-sensing limited-slip differential, XDS, progressive steering, performance brakes, and adaptive damping.
• Safety package: IQ Drive is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Some IQ Drive functions are unavailable with the manual gearbox, and Emergency Assist is only available with the dual-clutch automatic.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless charging, SiriusXM 360L, and a nine-speaker Beats Audio system. The car does not include embedded navigation, and the system can be slow to load at startup.
• Fuel efficiency: The GLI averaged 29.9 mpg on the testing loop and was rated at 30 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is offered in 1 trim level: GLI.

Here's the short version:

The GLI is the one to buy if you want the full package without sorting through a trim ladder. It already includes the Autobahn Package, so you get the upscale interior touches, the strong performance hardware, and the standard tech and safety equipment in one setup. That makes it the best-value choice by default, since there is no lower trim to trade up from.

The safety package note is simple: some IQ Drive functions are unavailable with the manual gearbox, and Emergency Assist is only available with the dual-clutch automatic.

Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, while Emergency Assist can bring the car to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive, but it is only available with the dual-clutch automatic. Some IQ Drive functions are unavailable with the manual gearbox.

The car also has automatic post-collision braking, which is a useful added safeguard after an impact.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• It adds the Autobahn Package as standard and brings a stronger mix of performance, tech, and everyday practicality.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It offers a sporty personality with a manual transmission and strong handling.

The bottom line: If you want the more complete and better-equipped version of the GLI formula, the 2022 is the cleaner pick. If you are mainly shopping on price and still want the same basic enthusiast-friendly sedan idea, the 2021 can make sense as the lower-cost path.
