Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Sienna stands out as a hybrid-only minivan that carries over Toyota’s redesigned formula into its second model year. Its standard hybrid powertrain gives it a fuel-efficient character, and the Sienna also offers plenty of cargo space, which helps it fit the practical role many minivan buyers are looking for. Strong safety ratings add to its appeal for families.
Toyota also broadened the lineup with a new Woodland trim level aimed at buyers who want a more adventurous look. The main tradeoff is price, since the 2022 Toyota Sienna is priced higher than competitors. Even so, its mix of efficiency, space, and safety makes it a distinctive choice in the minivan class.

After doing some research, we decided that a Honda or Toyota mini-van would be the best option for our expanding family. We ultimately went with the Toyota Sienna due to it being a hybrid, captain seats in the middle row, full trunk that will actually fit stuff, and the drive ability.

Drives great, great mileage. Im impressed with the screen options and data it tracks- even on the base LE model. Im excited to drive it every time I get in!

Hybrid Sienna is great value. Compare to more expensive Hybrid Pacifica. Other brands should come online next year. Supply of Sienna Hybrid is very low. Not taking new orders. Probably will be well into 2023 model year before supply returns.

Great fuel economy for this size vehicle. Little expensive, but will save on gas during ownership. Needs a little more power hp, but would be buying for the great gas mileage. Compare this Sienna to a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid, which is also expensive.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.75/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
The 2022 Sienna stands out as a hybrid-only minivan with a standard hybrid powertrain, plenty of cargo space, and strong safety ratings. That combination makes it especially appealing if you want a practical family hauler that emphasizes efficiency and everyday usefulness.
One trade-off is price, since it sits above several competitors. Another is that the model’s value proposition leans more toward function and efficiency than bargain pricing.
38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Sienna’s standard hybrid setup and Toyota’s broader hybrid experience support its reputation for dependable everyday use. The expert data also points to smooth, efficient operation, with the hybrid system and CVT tuned for easy, low-stress driving.
Toyota backs the hybrid-related components with an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, which adds confidence for used buyers. For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about the concept and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still prioritize a history report, because even a strong accident-free share does not guarantee the individual listing you’re considering is clean. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on hybrid-system operation, cabin condition, and signs of heavy family use such as worn seats, damaged trim, or overworked sliding-door hardware.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base models use 17-inch wheels, while upper trims move up to 18-inch and even 20-inch wheels. The cabin also scales up with available second-row captain’s chairs with ottomans, a bench seat option, and more upscale convenience features on higher trims.
- Powertrain: The Sienna uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors for 243 horsepower. FWD is standard, AWD is available, and the hybrid setup is tuned for smooth, efficient driving.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes adaptive cruise control, Lane Tracing Assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard.
- Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, one USB media port, and six USB charging ports. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 36 mpg city/36 mpg highway/36 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 35 mpg city/36 mpg highway/35 mpg combined.
Which 2022 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and Woodland Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sienna formula at the lowest price. It’s the best-value choice if you want the hybrid powertrain, standard safety tech, and family-friendly space without paying for extras you may not need.
- XLE: This is the trim to target if you want a more balanced mix of comfort and convenience. It adds more available seating flexibility and upscale features, making it a smart middle-ground pick for many shoppers.
- XSE: This trim adds a sportier look and sits above the XLE in price. Choose it if you want a more distinctive appearance and are willing to pay more for style-oriented upgrades.
- Limited: This is the better choice if you want a more premium-feeling cabin and more available tech. It suits shoppers who plan to keep the van for a long time and want a more upscale daily experience.
- Woodland Edition: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more adventurous look and AWD only. It’s the right pick if that rugged styling matters to you more than maximum value.
- Platinum: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most features and the most upscale presentation. It makes sense if you want the most fully equipped Sienna and are comfortable paying for it.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, so you’re getting the core driver-assistance package even on the base trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?

- Inventory: There are 1,536 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.84% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,528, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $36,583 sits slightly below last year's $38,851.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average.
The Sienna’s strong reputation for efficiency, space, and safety should help keep demand steady among family buyers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

Choose the 2022 if:
- 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.84% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a Woodland trim level for buyers who want a more adventurous look.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $34,413, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $36,583 average.
- It introduced the redesigned Sienna with standard hybrid power.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $41,497, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $36,583 average.
- It keeps the hybrid formula and emphasizes family-friendly practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, efficiency, and safety, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2021 can save you money while still delivering the core hybrid Sienna experience.
