Used 2022 Toyota Sequoia for Sale nearRochester, NY

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Sequoia earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

It fits you best if you want a classic body-on-frame, three-row, full-size SUV with truck-based toughness, rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive, and a straightforward focus on space and durability. The trade-offs are clear: the fuel economy is poor, the technology is outdated, and the interior styling feels dated.

For shoppers who value a traditional SUV layout, strong cargo utility, and a powerful engine over modern polish, that mix can still make sense. Good and great deals account for 33.6% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is built around a familiar truck-based platform and a single V8 powertrain, and the expert evaluation says that engine and transmission combination has an excellent reputation for durability and reliability. The overall ownership picture also leans toward toughness and longevity rather than complexity.

Toyota’s approach here is simple: keep the mechanical package straightforward and durable, even if the cabin and tech trail newer rivals. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about sophistication and more about age-related wear on a vehicle that has been on the market for a long time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sequoia?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper vehicle-by-vehicle review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear, maintenance history, and signs of hard use, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example. Pay close attention to condition inside and out, since the Sequoia’s age shows most clearly in the cabin and technology.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR5 is the least expensive way in, while higher trims add more equipment and visual polish. The Limited is the volume trim, and the Nightshade Special Edition is based on it with darkened exterior trim and black-painted wheels.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 5.7-liter i-Force V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. RWD is standard, 4WD is available, and TRD Pro models come with standard 4WD.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is standard, and the standard safety suite also includes stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart-stop technology.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 7 inches, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and WiFi connectivity and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well. The Limited adds navigation and a 12-speaker audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sequoia returns 13 mpg city/17 mpg highway/15 mpg combined with RWD and 13 mpg city/17 mpg highway/14 mpg combined with 4WD.

Which 2022 Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Pro, Limited, Platinum, and Nightshade Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Sequoia’s core space, V8 power, and standard safety features without paying for extras you may not need.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more appearance- and road-focused step up from the base model while staying within the mainstream lineup.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the Sequoia’s off-road character, since it gets standard 4WD and special suspension tuning.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and tech upgrades, including navigation and a 12-speaker audio system.
• Nightshade Special Edition: Pick this if you want the Limited’s equipment with a darker exterior look and blacked-out details.
• Platinum: This is the top trim if you want the most upscale Sequoia experience and are willing to pay for it.

Toyota Safety Sense P and blind-spot monitoring are standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims just to get the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Sequoia?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on clean examples.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 402 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 86.8% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia safe?

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia has no released crash-test ratings from NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Standard blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert adds another useful layer of protection in a large SUV, and Toyota’s STAR safety system brings stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart-stop technology.

You also get a full complement of airbags, LATCH connectors in all second-row seating positions and in the center position in the third row, front energy-absorbing crumple zones, side-impact door beams, trailer sway-control, front and rear parking-assist sonar, child-protector rear door locks, and power window lockouts. The main caveat is that there are no published crash-test results to lean on.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers a durable, truck-based full-size SUV with standard advanced safety features and a powerful V8.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It offers similar space and V8-powered capability in an older, still practical package.

Consider the 2023 if:

• It brings a redesigned cabin and a standard hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the traditional Sequoia formula, the 2022 is the year to target because it combines proven hardware, standard safety gear, and a market with enough inventory to shop selectively. If price is your top priority, the 2021 can be a sensible alternative; if you want a newer design and more modern tech, the 2023 is the better path.
