How much does the 2022 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 2.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,029 listings available, which gives you a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota RAV4 earns 4.4/5 from owners and 8.3/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its practicality, comfort, and performance, especially its ability to handle different weather conditions. They also highlight the spacious interior and advanced technology features, including the sound system. On the downside, some owners mention a basic-feeling cabin and limited leather seating options, and a few note that pricing can feel high.

That lines up with the RAV4’s use case as a well-rounded compact SUV: you get broad everyday usefulness, a roomy cabin, and strong safety credentials rather than a flashy personality. The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 38.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle people trust for practicality, comfort, and trouble-free everyday use. The expert review also describes the RAV4 as a solid choice for buyers who want long-term dependability and durability, which reinforces its reputation as something you can count on over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core dependability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota RAV4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free status is only one part of the picture. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on cabin condition, electronics, and signs of hard use, especially if you’re shopping higher-mileage examples. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely so you know whether the features you want are actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base trims get a 7-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and standard safety tech, while XLE models and above upgrade to a 9-inch screen. Higher trims add more premium equipment, so the lower trims are the ones most likely to feel sparse.
• Powertrain: The gasoline model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 203 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available on all trim levels. Fuel economy is listed at 27-28 mpg city and 35 mpg highway for FWD models, with AWD models slightly lower.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane-tracing assist, and road sign assist. Higher grades add blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking, while front and rear parking assist with automatic braking is available on upper grades.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Wi-Fi Connect. XLE models and above get a 9-inch touchscreen, while Limited and RAV4 Prime XSE models can add an 11-speaker JBL system and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD gasoline models return 27-28 mpg city and 35 mpg highway, while AWD models are rated at 25-27 mpg city and 32-34 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the core RAV4 formula: standard safety tech, smartphone integration, and a 7-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and don’t need extra comfort features.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience without pushing the price too far. The upgrade to the 9-inch touchscreen makes the cabin feel more modern, and it’s the trim where the RAV4 starts to feel better equipped.
• XLE Premium: This is the right pick if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it. It builds on the XLE’s equipment with a more premium presentation, making it a good fit if comfort matters more than keeping costs down.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the most polished mainstream RAV4 experience. It’s the most natural fit for buyers who want the richest feature set short of the specialty models.
• Adventure: This trim leans into a more rugged personality and is the one used in expert testing. It suits you if you want the RAV4’s utility with a more distinctive look and AWD-only positioning.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the most specialized gas model, aimed at buyers who want the most rugged version of the lineup. It’s the trim to consider if you want the off-road-oriented setup rather than the mainstream comfort focus.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, while higher grades add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota RAV4?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,029 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,205, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $26,882 sits slightly below last year's $27,644.

That softer pricing suggests the RAV4 has already absorbed some of its recent market cooling, which can help future sellers if demand stays steady. A lower current entry price can also make the vehicle easier to move later, especially if you keep mileage and condition in check.

The RAV4’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and reputation for durability should continue to support buyer interest over time. Well-kept examples are likely to remain competitive in the used market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded it five-star ratings.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane-tracing assist, and road sign assist. Higher grades add blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking, and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking is available on upper grades.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines broad trim choice, standard safety tech, and strong everyday practicality.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,487, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $26,882 average.
• It adds the RAV4 Prime and expands trim choice.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,559, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $26,882 average.
• It updates the infotainment system while keeping the same basic formula.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want a balanced mix of price, inventory, and proven appeal. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look for its lower average cost, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the newer infotainment update and don’t mind paying more.
