Used 2022 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearAustin, TX

How much does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 2.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,489 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, ruggedness, and spacious interior. The review summary also points to strong off-road performance and a vehicle that feels well suited to buyers who want durability and utility over polish.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and an outdated interior. The expert summary also frames it as a better fit for adventure-minded use than for suburban refinement.

Given its family-hauling versatility and off-road focus, it makes the most sense if you want a rugged SUV that can handle daily duties without pretending to be a soft crossover. The market still shows 35.7% good or great deals, which leaves room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary repeatedly emphasizes reliability and a trouble-free, dependable feel, while also highlighting ruggedness and confidence over time.

The expert evaluation says the 4Runner uses a dated V6 engine because it is reliable and provides a decent jump off the line. That same assessment also notes the model’s five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some ownership reassurance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about living with its age, efficiency, and everyday refinement.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because the 4Runner’s rugged use case can mean more wear than the odometer alone suggests. Focus on overall condition, especially signs of hard use, neglected maintenance, or off-road abuse.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 is the starting point and includes push-button start, remote keyless entry, a power-sliding rear window, satellite radio, multiple USB ports, a WiFi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Premium SR5 adds HD radio, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and power-adjustable front seats. The Trail Special Edition adds a unique appearance and cargo-focused equipment, while the TRD Sport leans more road-oriented. The TRD Off-Road adds trail hardware, and the TRD Pro builds on that with more equipment. The Limited is the most road-focused and adds comfort features. If you want the best value, the SR5 gives you the core 4Runner experience without stretching the budget.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4WD with low range is available. The engine is described as reliable, but it feels underwhelming in most driving situations.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera system cost extra. The TRD Pro also adds an off-road camera system.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and multiple USB ports. You cannot upgrade to a larger screen, but you can add navigation, HD radio, and a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 16 mpg city, 19 highway, and 17 combined.

Which 2022 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, Trail Special Edition, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the best-value starting point if you want the 4Runner’s core ruggedness, standard safety tech, and easy-to-use infotainment without paying for extras you may not need.
• Trail Special Edition: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and useful cargo-oriented extras like the cargo basket, sliding rear cargo deck, and accessory cooler.
• TRD Sport: This trim is the better pick if you want a more road-oriented setup with X-REAS performance suspension and added style touches.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the trim to target if trail capability matters most, thanks to standard 4WD, a locking rear differential, skid plates, crawl control, active traction control, and a terrain management system.
• TRD Pro: This is the most capable and best-equipped off-road choice, adding enhanced shock absorbers, a surround-view camera system, an off-road camera system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, and a premium JBL stereo.
• Limited: Pick this if you want the most comfort-focused 4Runner, with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and X-REAS sport suspension.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and the surround-view camera system are not standard on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,489 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,205, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $39,353 sits slightly below last year's $40,311.

That modest decline suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you should not expect a big near-term appreciation bump from market movement alone.

Even so, the 4Runner’s reputation for durability and strong owner satisfaction should help it hold buyer interest better than many mainstream SUVs. If you keep mileage, condition, and maintenance history in good shape, you should have a solid shot at preserving value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal and side-impact testing, and three-star ratings in rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera system are extra, so you may want to prioritize a better-equipped trim if safety convenience matters to you.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances rugged utility with standard safety tech and easy-to-use infotainment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,749, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,353 average.
• It emphasizes rugged capability and reliability over refinement.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,402, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $39,353 average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the classic 4Runner formula with a decent mix of value, safety tech, and market availability. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better budget path; if you want newer standard safety equipment and can pay more, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
