What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Legacy?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for wear, prior repairs, and any signs that the car hasn’t been maintained as expected. Focus especially on overall condition, because a used sedan with strong safety and comfort appeal is only a good buy if the individual example has been cared for properly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $20,599 sits slightly below last year's $22,458.

That softer pricing suggests the Legacy has already moved down from its earlier level, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained than on market momentum alone. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,524, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,599 average.
• It offers standard AWD and practical comfort with budget-friendly pricing.

The bottom line:
The 2022 is the better pick if you want the stronger current-market mix of owner satisfaction, deal availability, and accident-free inventory. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the more price-sensitive alternative and still delivers the Legacy’s core strengths.
