How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS cost?

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?

Yes — you get a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS fits buyers who want a full-size, three-row luxury SUV with flagship presence, real passenger space, and everyday utility. The overview and test-drive feedback both point to a roomy cabin, stylish design, and a powerful engine as core strengths.

The main trade-offs are poor ride quality and poor ergonomic design, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the GLS remains a strong fit if you want a large luxury SUV that emphasizes comfort, space, and prestige over sharp handling.

With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The GLS is positioned as Mercedes’ flagship SUV, and the overview emphasizes its size, luxury, and practicality. The expert feedback also describes the six-cylinder powertrain as providing more than enough muscle for this big SUV, with the inline-six layout contributing to smoothness that suits a luxury vehicle.

Mercedes’ mild-hybrid setup also helps the engine start-stop system feel more aggressive and reduces the engine’s workload. On the ownership side, the GLS comes with a four-year, 50,000-mile basic warranty and powertrain warranty, which helps cushion early used-car risk.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that a large, complex luxury SUV can become expensive if prior maintenance or repairs were deferred.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury SUV with a lot of standard equipment and available options. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the vehicle’s features operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLS 450 form is described as more subtle and less flashy than some rivals, and the test car’s fairly basic interior lacked reclining seats. That means you should pay close attention to which comfort and appearance features are actually present.
• Powertrain: The GLS 450 uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic and EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance. It delivers strong output and smooth operation, with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and second-row side airbags are extra.
• Infotainment: The standard MBUX setup includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, navigation, SiriusXM, and natural-language voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA ratings are 20 mpg combined, 18 mpg city, and 24 mpg highway.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 921 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $46,072, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?

The current average of $46,072 sits slightly below last year's $54,565.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment because the model has already moved off its prior-year pricing peak.

If you keep the vehicle well maintained and documented, you may be better positioned to preserve value when it is time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS safe?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Mercedes also notes that some advanced driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

That means you should check carefully for the safety equipment on any used example you consider, especially if you want more advanced driver assistance. The key shortcoming here is that Mercedes leaves a lot of the more advanced safety tech on the options list.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for its simplified lineup, with Mercedes withdrawing most V8 models and leaving the base six-cylinder GLS 450 4Matic.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,449, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $46,072 average.
• It offers multiple powertrain options and a strong luxury-and-performance blend.

The bottom line: If you want the better current-value play, the 2022 is the cleaner choice because pricing has eased and the market still offers a solid share of good deals. If you are specifically shopping for broader powertrain choice, the 2021 is the better year to compare, though it costs more on average.
