CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 206 currently listed for sale and an average price of $42,133, 40.3% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
93.7% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering a rare kind of luxury in a class of one, especially in Cabriolet form. Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little overall, which means it continues to lean on the E-Class’s established strengths rather than chasing a major redesign.
For 2022, the most significant change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants, and the lineup is left with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, and a couple of paint colors are new. In the coupe and convertible body styles, rear USB charging ports are now standard equipment. That combination makes the E-Class appealing to buyers who want a polished luxury experience with a few useful updates, though the loss of the V8-powered AMG versions narrows the range of performance choices.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $38,985 |
| Year-Round Low | $38,957 |
| Year-Round High | $42,436 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,127 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.46% |
Prices have softened 7.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,166 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
The E-Class stands out for its rare body-style variety, polished luxury character, and strong technology. For 2022, it keeps the established strengths of the refreshed lineup rather than chasing a major redesign, and the overview points to a car that can be tailored toward comfort, performance, or a more expressive luxury setup depending on how you configure it.
The market also shows 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 E-Class leans on an established platform and a lineup that changes little after the 2021 refresh, which supports the case for consistency. Its turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder powertrains, along with the mild-hybrid setup on higher-output versions, point to a modern but familiar mechanical formula.
The performance notes emphasize robust response across the rev range, and the cost-effectiveness notes suggest you can choose a less elaborate version and still get the core E-Class experience. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is paying close attention to condition and equipment level, since the car’s appeal can vary a lot by configuration.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or used as a convertible. Focus on overall condition, equipment functionality, and whether the car has the safety and tech features you want, since the E-Class can vary a lot by trim and package.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans coupe, convertible, sedan, and station wagon body styles, and the base E350 sedan is the most modest expression of the range. Higher-spec versions add more visual drama and luxury, while the AMG E53 Cabriolet brings the most expressive look and feel.
- Powertrain: Sedans come with a turbocharged four-cylinder as the E350, while E450 versions use a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. The AMG E53 uses a more powerful version of that six-cylinder setup, with 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: The cabin centers on two 12.3-inch screens, and MBUX includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. WiFi service and augmented reality navigation are available, and the system can also be controlled by voice, touchscreen, center-console controls, and steering-wheel touch inputs.
- Fuel efficiency: The available mild-hybrid setup is designed to improve both power output and efficiency.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 3 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53.
Here's the short version:
- E350: This is the entry point if you want the E-Class experience at the lowest starting point. It gives you the core luxury, body-style variety, and standard safety equipment without moving up to the more powerful six-cylinder setup.
- E450: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology, giving you stronger performance while keeping the E-Class’s polished character.
- AMG E53: Choose this if you want the most performance-focused version in the lineup. It adds the AMG-tuned 429-horsepower six-cylinder, AMG Speedshift transmission, AMG Performance 4Matic+ AWD, AMG-tuned air suspension, and an AMG performance exhaust.
Most other safety features are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, so check whether a used example has it before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,166 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.46% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $38,957, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $38,985 sits slightly below last year's $42,127.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, the key question is whether the car holds its appeal through condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than relying on broad market appreciation.
Because the E-Class is a premium model with strong desirability when properly equipped, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
It has standard forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Cabriolet also adds pop-up rollbars for rollover protection, and Active Parking Assist plus a surround-view camera system are standard on the AMG E53.
Most other safety features are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, including adaptive cruise control, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus. If you want the fullest safety setup, make sure a used example has that package.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 lineup keeps the refreshed 2021-era formula, adds standard automatic high-beam headlights, and drops the AMG E63 and E63 S variants.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $36,105, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $38,985 average.
- It offers a wide range of personalities, with four body styles, four engines, and strong ride quality.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing context, standard equipment updates, and a broad luxury experience, the 2022 is the cleaner pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value path, especially if you find one with the equipment you want.
