CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 1,020 currently listed for sale and an average price of $40,253.00, 32.6% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
84.6% of 2022 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering a rare kind of luxury in a class of one, especially in Cabriolet form. Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little, which means it continues to lean on the polished character and upscale appeal that define the E-Class rather than chasing major reinvention.
For 2022, the most significant change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants. The lineup also loses V8 engines, leaving turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. At the same time, automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, a couple of paint colors are new, and rear USB charging ports are now standard on the coupe and convertible body styles. That mix makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class appealing to buyers who want a refined luxury car with useful standard equipment, though shoppers looking for the most powerful versions will find those options gone.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 8.17/10 expert rating point to a strong overall showing. The E-Class stands out for its rare body-style variety, polished luxury character, and upscale appeal, especially if you want a refined car rather than a major reinvention. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10. With a 33.0% good-or-great-deal share, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The E-Class is presented as a polished, upscale luxury car, and the expert review emphasizes its refined character and broad appeal rather than any major mechanical red flags. Its turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder powertrains, along with the mild-hybrid setup on the six-cylinder, are described as robust and efficient enough for the model’s mission. The ownership picture is still one to approach carefully in used form, since a luxury car with this much equipment can bring higher repair and upkeep exposure over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper paper trail. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on electronics, convertible-top operation if applicable, and the condition of the cabin and exterior trim. Pay close attention to how the car was equipped, since standard equipment and optional packages can change the ownership experience a lot.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin presentation can range from basic to richly appointed, and the base setup is described as relatively plain compared with higher-spec versions. The most luxurious examples add premium leather, carbon fiber trim, bright digital displays, and upscale interior detailing.
- Powertrain: The lineup uses turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology on the six-cylinder. The six-cylinder setup is described as strong and responsive, with robust acceleration and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
- Safety package: The standard safety set includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The extra-cost Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: The system uses two 12.3-inch screens, including a touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it can add WiFi service and augmented reality navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The six-cylinder mild-hybrid setup is designed to improve both power output and efficiency, while the model’s broader lineup is positioned to balance strong acceleration with usable everyday driving manners.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, AMG E53 Cabriolet.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E350 gives you the entry point, but the review makes clear that the most basic versions are visually restrained and less engaging than the higher-spec models.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E450 is the best value if you want the turbocharged six-cylinder, EQ Boost mild-hybrid tech, and strong acceleration without stepping all the way up to AMG pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The AMG E53 Cabriolet adds the richest mix of performance, luxury, and tech, including the high-end cabin presentation, digital displays, Burmester audio, and AMG-tuned hardware.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that many of the most advanced driver aids are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

- Clean inventory: 84.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,121.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $40,138 sits slightly below last year's $43,160.
That softer pricing trend can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market keeps easing. For a seller, the key takeaway is that this model year is not in a rising-price phase right now, so holding out for appreciation is unlikely to pay off. Well-equipped examples should still draw interest because the E-Class has strong luxury appeal and broad body-style variety.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The E-Class comes with standard forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Cabriolet also adds pop-up rollbars for rollover protection, and Active Parking Assist plus a surround-view camera system are standard on the AMG E53. The extra-cost Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, lane-keeping support, blind-spot assist, evasive steering assist, and rear-collision preparation. That package is a major safety upgrade if you want the fullest driver-assistance coverage.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 lineup adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and keeps the E-Class focused on polished luxury and useful standard equipment.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $37,902, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,138 average.
- It offers broad versatility across body styles, engines, and configurations.
The 2022 is the better pick if you want the newer-year setup and can live with the current market pricing. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the smarter value play because it undercuts the 2022 while still delivering the E-Class’s core strengths.
