What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus IS?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on how the car drives, how the electronics respond, and whether the cabin and exterior show signs of hard use. Given the model’s sporty mission, pay close attention to tire wear, brake condition, and any signs that the car has been driven aggressively.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the IS 500 F Sport Performance, which adds a 5.0-liter V8, exclusive 19-inch lighter-weight wheels, raised hood clearance, and subtle exterior trim changes. Premium trim adds triple-beam headlights, a navigation system, a surround-view monitoring system, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system, and a power rear window shade.
• Powertrain: The IS 500 F Sport Performance uses a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 with 472 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. It also includes a limited-slip differential, adaptive variable suspension, and a Yamaha rear performance damper.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard on all 2022 IS models. It includes a wide range of driving assistance, collision warning, and collision-prevention technologies, along with lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assistance, and low-speed automatic braking. Some functions can be overly aggressive in certain situations.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The IS 500 Premium adds a 10.3-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation recorded 17.7 mpg during testing, and the official combined rating is 20 mpg.
