CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 208 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $30,530, 101.4% of 2022 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2022 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it is still one of the few vehicles that combines retro styling with true open-air versatility and serious off-road ability. It can be had as a two-door or four-door convertible, and it also offers removable doors and a fold-down windshield. That unusual mix gives it a character that is hard to mistake for anything else, and it helps explain why the Wrangler remains such a distinctive choice even as other vehicles have moved into its territory.
What makes the 2022 Wrangler appealing is the way it blends personality with capability. It offers multiple powertrain options, it is fun to drive, and it delivers impressive off-road performance. At the same time, it is not trying to hide its compromises: poor fuel economy, poor ride quality, and unimpressive safety ratings are part of the package. That tradeoff is central to the Wrangler’s appeal, since buyers are choosing a vehicle that prioritizes adventure and individuality over everyday polish.
Owners echo that same appeal, often praising the 2022 Jeep Wrangler’s iconic design, customizable features, and off-road performance. They also like the soft top and the overall driving experience. Some, however, note that it can feel overpriced and point to gas mileage and certain basic design choices as drawbacks.

I absolutely LOVE my jeep. It has so many features that are so convenient and worth every extra penny .This is also my first car and I don’t care that I spent more than 50k on a car. I had the money and it’s been my dream car since I was younger. The overall worth to me already is more than what I spent and I’d gladly make the same decision over again. It’s absolutely gorgeous. If you love it, you want it and can afford it, GO FOR IT! Strongly recommend

How much does the 2022 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $30,413 |
| Year-Round Low | $30,413 |
| Year-Round High | $34,019 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,017 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.59% |
Prices have softened 10.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 8,607 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — with a 4.93/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler clearly resonates with shoppers who want personality and capability. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its iconic design, fun driving experience, and customizable features. They also like the soft top and the overall off-road performance. On the other hand, the expert review points to poor fuel economy and poor ride quality as meaningful trade-offs, along with unimpressive safety ratings.
That makes the Wrangler a strong fit if you want open-air versatility and a vehicle that feels purpose-built for adventure rather than everyday polish. 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in the ways Wrangler shoppers care about most: it’s praised for its fun, trouble-free character, customizable setup, and off-road confidence. The expert review reinforces that sense of rugged durability by describing it as a raw, rugged vehicle with a long list of compromises that buyers accept for its capability.
The available maintenance and ownership notes also suggest a vehicle designed for practical use in harsh conditions, including a cabin that can be hosed out. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic toughness and more about whether the previous owner accepted the Wrangler’s compromises and maintained it accordingly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear from off-road use, roof and door condition, and any signs of hard use or modifications. You should also pay close attention to whether the equipment level matches what you expect, since the Wrangler’s features can vary a lot by trim and option package.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Wrangler comes in Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. Base versions can feel sparse, while higher trims add more convenience and capability, so you should compare equipment carefully before deciding.
- Powertrain: You can choose from a turbocharged four-cylinder, gasoline V6, turbodiesel V6, gas V8, or plug-in hybrid powertrain, and the turbo-four and V6 come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The eight-speed automatic is an upgrade, and the available 4WD systems vary by trim.
- Safety package: The Safety Group includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. These safety features are optional rather than standard.
- Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger Uconnect 8.4 system adds satellite radio, connected services with a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The eTorque V6 is listed at 21 mpg in combined driving, though real-world results can be lower depending on equipment and use.
Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting point and plan to keep the build simple.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it serves as the basis for the High Tide test vehicle and supports a broader range of convenience and tech upgrades.
- Sahara: This is the more comfort-oriented choice if you want a step up in everyday usability without moving all the way to the most specialized trim.
- Rubicon: This is the trim to choose if you want the most serious off-road focus in the lineup.
The Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are optional, so you should factor those packages into your trim decision if safety tech matters to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 8,607 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,413, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $30,413 sits slightly below last year's $34,017.
That price movement suggests the Wrangler has softened enough to create a better entry point for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market than they did a year ago. If prices stay near the current level, resale value will depend heavily on condition, trim desirability, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Wranglers with the right equipment and clean histories should still draw attention because the model has a strong enthusiast following.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The Jeep Wrangler earns a Marginal rating in IIHS small overlap front testing and a Marginal rating in IIHS side-impact testing, and it earns a three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA.
It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.
The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Those packages help, but they are optional rather than standard.
The safety results are the main caution here, especially if you plan to use the Wrangler as a daily driver or family vehicle. You should treat safety equipment as a priority when shopping used, and you should not assume a higher trim automatically solves the Wrangler’s crash-test shortcomings.
Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a new air filtration system and updated equipment choices.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,076, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $30,413 average.
- It offers a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid and a Hemi V8.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $35,325, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $30,413 average.
- It emphasizes off-road capability with solid axles and a five-link suspension.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and broad market availability, the 2022 is the sensible default. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2023 is the next step up.
