How much does the 2022 Jeep Wrangler cost?

Prices have softened 11.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 8,617 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its iconic design, fun driving experience, and customizable features, and many also like the soft top and off-road capability. The trade-offs are familiar: it can feel overpriced to some shoppers, and gas mileage plus certain basic design choices draw criticism.

That fits the Wrangler’s use case well: you’re buying it for character, open-air versatility, and trail ability more than everyday polish. Good and great deals make up 36.8% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers, especially those who value its long-term appeal, customization, and off-road capability.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Wrangler is built around rugged, go-anywhere use rather than comfort-first commuting. That kind of design can be durable, but it also means you should expect compromises in refinement and be especially careful about how a used example was maintained and driven.

If you’re shopping used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is buying one that was neglected, heavily modified, or used hard off-road without proper upkeep.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a Wrangler’s adventurous life can include off-road use, modifications, and wear that doesn’t always show up in photos. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on suspension condition, steering feel, brakes, roof and door seals, and any signs of underbody damage or poor repairs. Pay extra attention to whether the equipment on the truck matches the way you plan to use it.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Wrangler comes in four core trims: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. The base setup can feel basic, while higher trims and special editions add more convenience and appearance equipment.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a turbocharged four-cylinder, gasoline V6, turbodiesel V6, gas V8, or plug-in hybrid powertrain, and the turbo-four and V6 come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Four-wheel drive is standard, but systems vary by trim.
• Safety package: The Safety Group includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The larger 8.4-inch system adds satellite radio, connected services, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The eTorque V6 is said to return 21 mpg in combined driving, though real-world testing came in lower, including 17.6 mpg on the evaluation route and 16.8 mpg over a week.

Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting point and plan to keep the build simple.
• Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it serves as the basis for more desirable equipment and special editions while staying relatively approachable.
• Sahara: Choose this if you want a more polished, comfort-oriented setup without moving all the way to the most trail-focused trim.
• Rubicon: This is the one to buy if off-road capability is your top priority, since it is the most purpose-built of the core trims.

The Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are optional rather than standard, so check carefully for those packages on any used Wrangler you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 8,617 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.17% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,266, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

The current average of $29,266 sits slightly below last year's $32,948.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key question is whether the Wrangler’s strong identity and broad appeal can offset its higher ownership costs and rougher everyday manners. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still draw attention, but condition and configuration will matter a lot.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?

The Jeep Wrangler earns a three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA and Marginal ratings in IIHS small overlap and side-impact testing.

It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.

The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Those packages help, but they are optional rather than standard.

The low crash-test results are the main caution here, so if safety is a top priority, you should be especially selective about trim and equipment.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a new air filtration system and updated equipment choices.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,806, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,266 average.
• It adds a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid and a Hemi V8.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $34,305, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $29,266 average.
• It keeps the Wrangler’s rugged formula while emphasizing trail-focused hardware.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the better all-around pick if you want the current-year market balance of price, inventory, and satisfaction. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look for its lower average price and distinctive powertrain choices.

How does the 2022 Jeep Wrangler compare to the 2022 Ford Bronco?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2022 Jeep Wrangler:

• Cons: Poor fuel economy, Poor ride quality, Unimpressive safety ratings.

2022 Ford Bronco:

• Pros: Incredible off-road capabilities, Multiple body styles, Plenty of cargo space.
• Cons: Advanced safety features are not standard, Middling safety scores.

Our experts score the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 5.5/10 and the 2022 Ford Bronco 8/10.
