Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a value-focused compact sedan with stylish exterior design and a roomy cabin. It also brings excellent fuel economy, impressive standard safety features and driver-assistance tech, top-notch product quality, and an industry-leading warranty, all at a bargain price. How much does the 2022 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,219 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,047 |
| Year-Round High | $18,397 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,395 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.39% |
Prices have softened 6.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,817 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its value, fuel efficiency, safety features, warranty coverage, and stylish design. That lines up with the car’s role as a value-focused compact sedan that gives you a lot of equipment for the money.
The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine, uncomfortable seats, and a noisy demeanor. In practical terms, this is a strong fit if you want efficiency, tech, and style more than a refined or especially powerful driving experience.
Listings are also fairly healthy, with 34.3% of them marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with buyers repeatedly highlighting its value, warranty, fuel efficiency, safety features, and stylish design. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the car has been meeting expectations over time.
The expert test-drive data also reinforces the Elantra’s everyday dependability by describing the standard powertrain as perfectly adequate for most buyers. Hyundai’s warranty and complimentary maintenance coverage add another layer of ownership confidence.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a neglected example could be less pleasant to live with because of the car’s noisy character and less impressive base-engine performance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not guarantee perfect maintenance or repair history. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on cabin condition, seat comfort, and signs of abuse, since those are the kinds of issues that can affect day-to-day satisfaction.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited each bring a different mix of style, comfort, and equipment. The base trim is the most stripped-down, while higher trims add more tech and convenience.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder is paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive, while the N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with either a manual transmission or a DCT.
- Safety package: SmartSense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Higher trims add more advanced features.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims add a larger 10.25-inch screen, navigation, and more premium audio.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy ranges from 37 mpg on the SE to 28 mpg on the N Line with manual transmission, and the Hybrid Blue reaches 54 mpg.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and the core Elantra experience. It gives you the standard safety and tech package, plus the strongest fuel economy in the gas lineup.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more speakers, satellite radio, Blue Link connected services, and available convenience upgrades without jumping to the sportier or pricier trims.
- N Line: Choose this if you want the most engaging driving experience in the standard lineup. It adds the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a more athletic feel, though the sport seats may not suit everyone.
- Limited: This is the most upscale gas trim, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bose audio, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and the best headlight rating in the lineup.
The safety package is strongest as you move up the trim ladder, since more advanced driver-assistance features become available on higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,817 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.39% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 79.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,047, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $17,219 sits slightly below last year's $18,395.
That kind of price movement suggests the Elantra has softened enough to create a better buying opportunity now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy at today’s average, you’re starting from a lower price base than last year’s shoppers did.
The good news is that strong value, efficiency, and feature content can help keep demand steady in the used market. Models with the right trim and condition should remain appealing to budget-conscious shoppers looking for a well-equipped compact sedan.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns five-star overall crash protection from NHTSA, with four-star front crash protection and five-star side crash protection and rollover resistance. The IIHS gave it top Good ratings in all six of its individual crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai’s SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Standard equipment also includes driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. One caveat is that the lower-level SE, SEL, and N Line trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while the Limited’s LED headlights earned Good.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.39% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong safety, value, and efficiency with a redesigned cabin and broad trim range.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $16,071, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,219 average.
- It blends style, space, and technology into a more upscale-feeling compact sedan.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,317, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,219 average.
- It offers a wide range of appeal, from basic transportation to a budget sports-sedan option.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and equipment, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while keeping much of the same appeal. If you want more variety in the lineup and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 is worth a look.
