Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a value-focused compact sedan with a stylish exterior design and a roomy cabin. It also brings excellent fuel economy, impressive standard safety features and driver-assistance tech, top-notch product quality, and an industry-leading warranty, all at a bargain price. How much does the 2022 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,350 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,052.70 |
| Year-Round High | $18,448 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,427 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.84% |
Prices have softened 5.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,764 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.
If you find a listing below $17,052.70, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its excellent value, fuel efficiency, safety features, stylish design, and impressive warranty coverage. The expert review also points to top-notch product quality and a bargain price, which fits the Elantra’s role as a compact sedan that gives you a lot of equipment for the money.
The trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and uncomfortable seats, and the cabin can be noisy. That means you should expect the strongest appeal if you want efficiency, features, and value more than outright refinement.
The Elantra’s broad trim and powertrain mix makes it especially appealing if you want an affordable sedan that still feels well equipped. Good and great deals account for 28.2% of listings, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback emphasizes its impressive warranty, excellent value, and fuel efficiency, all of which support confidence in everyday ownership. The expert review also describes it as a bargain with top-notch product quality, which reinforces the sense that it is built to deliver dependable day-to-day use.
The cost-effectiveness data adds another ownership advantage: you get a five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and three years of complimentary maintenance. That combination lowers early ownership risk and helps you plan for the long haul.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the seats, cabin condition, and road noise, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction. It also makes sense to compare trims closely, because the equipment spread is wide enough to change the ownership experience a lot.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited trims differ meaningfully in style, cabin quality, and equipment. The base SE is the simplest version, while higher trims add more premium tech and features; the N Line brings sportier design elements, sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a black headliner, and aluminum pedals.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque with a CVT and front-wheel drive. It is adequate for everyday use, but the review notes some engine buzz and a lack of power under hard acceleration. The N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft, paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT.
- Safety package: The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. It also includes driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning. Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
- Infotainment: The base SE gets an 8-inch touchscreen, rearview camera, HD Radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, four speakers, and dual USB ports. SEL, Hybrid Blue, and N Line trims add two more speakers, satellite radio, and Blue Link connected services. Limited trims upgrade to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, an eight-speaker Bose system, a fully digital instrument cluster, dynamic voice recognition, and wireless charging, though CarPlay and Android Auto are wired on that setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA combined figure ranges from 37 mpg on the SE to 28 mpg on the N Line with manual transmission, or 31 mpg with the DCT. The Hybrid Blue reaches 54 mpg, and the Hybrid Limited returns 50 mpg.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want strong standard tech, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rearview camera, and the SmartSense safety suite. It is the trim to choose if you care most about price and efficiency.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more speakers, satellite radio, Blue Link connected services, and available upgrades such as Hyundai Digital Key and additional safety tech. If you want a more rounded daily driver without jumping to the pricier trims, this is the one to focus on.
- N Line: This is the choice if you want the sportiest gas-powered Elantra, with a turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a multi-link rear suspension. It also adds a more aggressive look and a more engaging driving experience, though the sport seats may be less comfortable on long trips.
- Limited: This is the most upscale gas trim, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bose audio, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and more premium-feeling equipment. It makes the most sense if you want the most features and the most polished cabin experience.
Higher trims also make available additional safety features such as intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.
- Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,764 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.84% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 79.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,052.70, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $17,350 sits slightly below last year's $18,427.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a well-equipped trim and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell. The strongest resale prospects usually come from versions that balance value, features, and broad buyer appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
It earns five-star ratings for overall crash protection from NHTSA, along with four-star ratings for front crash protection and five-star ratings for side crash protection and rollover resistance.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. It also adds driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. One caveat: the lower-level SE, SEL, and N Line trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while the Limited’s LED headlights earned a Good rating.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.84% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong value, excellent fuel economy, and impressive standard safety tech.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $16,327, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,350 average.
- It blends style, space, and sportiness with a more upscale feel.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,546, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,350 average.
- It broadens the lineup with roomy, efficient, and tech-forward options.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and safety, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the value-first alternative; if you want a newer-year option and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is worth a look.
