Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a value-focused compact sedan with a stylish exterior design and a roomy cabin. It also brings excellent fuel economy, impressive standard safety features and driver-assistance tech, top-notch product quality, and an industry-leading warranty, all at a bargain price. Those strengths make it especially appealing to buyers who want a lot of equipment and efficiency without stretching their budget.

This is a great car, with an excellent warranty and packed with features. It is also great on gas and we couldnt be happier with this car. It is used as a commuter car and so far we have no complaints. It gives a great ride and the lane assist feature is something!! Buy it!!

| Metric | Value |

Prices have softened 6.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,960 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
If you find a listing below $17,054.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, fuel efficiency, safety features, and stylish design. The roomy cabin and strong warranty coverage also come up as recurring positives. Some reviewers do mention a cockpit design element they dislike, so the interior layout may not suit everyone.
For a compact sedan aimed at buyers who want style, efficiency, and a lot of equipment for the money, that mix makes sense. It also lines up with the model’s bargain-price positioning and broad appeal across everyday commuting and family use.
Good and great deals account for 31.8% of listings, which is a healthy share of the market.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a car that feels dependable, trouble-free, and easy to count on over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty, which supports confidence in long-term ownership.
Hyundai also includes three years of complimentary maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior maintenance and wear items have been kept up properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a full records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on interior condition, seat comfort, and any signs of hard use. It also makes sense to confirm that the features you want are present, since equipment varies by trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited trims differ meaningfully, and the base SE is the most stripped-down version. Higher trims add more comfort, tech, and convenience, while the Limited stands out for its upgraded lighting and richer cabin presentation.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft, while the Hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric motor for stronger efficiency.
- Safety package: SmartSense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Driver-attention warning, automatic high beams, a rear-seat reminder, and Safe Exit Warning are also standard, while intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist are available on higher trims.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, Bluetooth, four speakers, and dual USB ports. SEL, Hybrid Blue, and N Line trims add two speakers, satellite radio, and Blue Link, while Limited trims upgrade to a 10.25-inch screen with navigation, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and an eight-speaker Bose system; the larger screen uses wired CarPlay and Android Auto only.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy ranges from 37 mpg in the SE to 28 mpg in the N Line with manual transmission, or 31 mpg with the DCT. The Hybrid Blue reaches 54 mpg, and the Hybrid Limited returns 50 mpg.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you the essentials, but it lacks the richer cabin feel and extra convenience features found higher up the range. It also misses the upgraded lighting and premium tech that make the upper trims feel more complete.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best value if you want a stronger feature mix without jumping to the pricier upper trims. It adds useful tech and convenience while staying closer to the model’s bargain-price appeal.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most polished choice, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and Bose audio. It is the trim to target if you want the most upscale Elantra experience.
- Off-road trim: The N Line is the enthusiast pick, but its sport seats can be less comfortable on long drives. If your daily routine is mostly commuting, you may prefer a more comfort-focused trim.
The Limited’s LED headlights earn a Good IIHS rating, while the SE, SEL, and N Line with halogen headlights receive a Marginal rating.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,960 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.05% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 79.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,054.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $17,449 sits slightly below last year's $18,574.
That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the model’s broad appeal, strong efficiency, and value reputation should help keep demand steady. Well-equipped trims and clean history examples should be easier to move than rougher, higher-mileage cars.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
It earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front crash protection and five-star ratings for side crash protection and rollover resistance.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai’s SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Standard equipment also includes driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Prices have softened 6.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines a roomy cabin, strong efficiency, and standout value.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $16,459, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,449 average.
- It introduced the redesigned Elantra’s bold new shape and roomy cabin.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,614, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,449 average.
- It adds a more advanced digital display and keeps the lineup’s strong efficiency.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while keeping the redesign’s core strengths. If you want newer tech and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the better step up.
