Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Hyundai Elantra 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra stands out because it tries to cover a wide range of buyer needs in one compact sedan. It is described as roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced, and its lineup is broad enough to span basic transportation, a 50-mpg hybrid loaded with features, and a budget-friendly sports sedan. That versatility is a major part of its appeal, especially for shoppers who want a car that can be practical without feeling stripped down.
It also earns attention for its multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and excellent value for money. Those strengths make it easy to recommend to buyers who care about fuel economy, safety features, and getting a lot for the price. The main drawback noted is its potentially polarizing design, which means the Elantra’s styling may not be for everyone.

This car provides exceptional value and incredible features. I can’t think of anything it is missing. Great gas mileage. I would compare it to a Honda Accord with a lower price and better gas mileage.

Bought new 2023 Elantra SEL with Convenience Package. Serenity white w/ black interior – it was the only one with this trim / color combo w/in 200 miles. Great car… no complaints; mileage/handling/tech features etc superb keeping in mind bang for buck cost vs. features. Have owned several Elantra’s over many years.

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2023 Hyundai Elantra prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2023 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,614 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,706.71 |
| Year-Round High | $19,823.01 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,808 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.98% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
With 4,466 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $18,706.71, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — 4.88/5 owners rate it highly, and the expert rating is 8.67/10.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, safety features, and value for the price. They also like the stylish design and the range of tech features. The main trade-offs are interior quality and cabin noise, with some owners noting cheap-feeling materials and rattles.
That fits the Elantra’s role as a compact sedan that can serve as basic transportation, a fuel-efficient hybrid, or a budget-friendly sporty option. With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, especially around fuel economy, safety, and value. The expert evaluation also describes the car as cost-effective and well suited to buyers who want a practical, efficient sedan. Hyundai’s complimentary scheduled maintenance and long powertrain warranty add another layer of ownership confidence.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up wear, noise, or interior quality issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not guarantee perfect condition. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on cabin condition, road noise, and any signs of rattles or trim wear, since those are the kinds of issues owners have mentioned.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Elantra SE is the entry point, while the SEL and Limited add a more upscale feel. The Limited looks and feels more upscale than its price suggests, and the SEL Convenience package adds the 17-inch wheels from the Limited. The base trim is the one most likely to miss the nicer visual and equipment upgrades.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower, 132 pound-feet of torque, a CVT Hyundai calls an IVT, front-wheel drive, and a torsion-beam rear axle. It is efficient and peppy rather than quick, while the hybrid variants deliver 50 mpg to 54 mpg in combined driving.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, a safe exit warning system, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add cyclist detection, intersection turning assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: The available 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and infotainment displays are a major upgrade. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, connected services, dynamic voice recognition, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging. Wireless smartphone connection is limited to Bluetooth, so CarPlay and Android Auto require a USB connection.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 33 mpg during evaluation and was rated at 34 mpg officially. Hybrid versions return 50 mpg to 54 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2023 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, Blue, N Line, and N.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you the essentials, but it misses the more upscale cabin feel and the larger digital displays found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL with the Convenience package is the best value if you want the 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and infotainment setup without jumping to the pricier trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the best choice if you want the most upscale feel, high-tech displays, and a more premium cabin presentation.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims here are aimed at off-road use, so there is no daily-driver caution to flag on that front.
The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the higher trims add useful extras like blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and Highway Driving Assist.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,466 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,706.71, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $19,614 sits slightly below last year's $19,808.
That small decline suggests the market has stayed relatively stable rather than dropping sharply. For you as a future seller, that means the Elantra is not showing signs of steep value erosion in this model year. Its broad appeal, efficiency, and strong feature set should help keep buyer interest steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2023 Elantra earned a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal crash protection and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, a safe exit warning system, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add cyclist detection, intersection turning assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.
The main caveat is that the IIHS did not carry forward the prior model year’s Top Safety Pick rating for this one.
Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong value, efficient powertrains, and broad standard safety equipment.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $17,449, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $19,614 average.
- It offers stylish design, roomy space, and excellent fuel economy.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $20,143, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $19,614 average.
- It adds more style and standard equipment after a mild refresh.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of value, tech, and safety, the 2023 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the better budget play. If you want the newest styling and added standard equipment, the 2024 is worth the extra money.
