Summary
With 230 currently listed for sale near Greensboro, NC and an average price of $33,505.00, 37.0% of 2022 Ford Expeditions for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Ford Expedition 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Ford Expedition stands out as a full-size SUV that combines strong presence with real substance. In expert testing, the twin-turbocharged Expedition was described as shining brightly, especially with the Stealth Edition treatment, and the vehicle drew attention for its paint color and wheels. That visual appeal is backed up by a powerful engine, spacious cabin, and impressive technology, making it easy to see why it can feel like more than just a large family hauler.
It is not without drawbacks, though. The 2022 Expedition’s weaknesses include poor fuel economy, a busy ride quality, and occasional technical glitches. Even so, the overall impression is that it is a terrific full-size SUV in nearly every respect, which makes it appealing to buyers who want size, comfort, and capability without giving up a polished, attention-getting look.

Compared to the Chevy Tahoe, which I drove, the 2022 Ford Expedition tows more, is more peppier, visibility is better through the windows, gets better gas mileage and is lighter. The video screen on the Limited is huge, almost too big. Good value, that is subjective, due to the high price compared to a few years ago. But Chevy, GMC and all the other big SUVs are also high priced.. The V-6 sounds good, but for some the V-8’s sound better.

Yes — the 2022 Ford Expedition earns a 4.83/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its towing capability, comfort for long trips, and spacious interior. They also describe it as a good value relative to other large SUVs, and the overall feedback points to a vehicle that feels useful and satisfying in everyday family duty.
The trade-offs are clear: the expert review calls out poor fuel economy and a busy ride quality, along with occasional technical glitches. That matters most if you want a quiet, low-stress commuter rather than a big SUV built for space, power, and road-trip duty.
If you need a full-size SUV for hauling people, towing, and long-distance comfort, this one fits that use case well. If you want something more efficient or less expensive to run, you may want to look elsewhere.
With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Ford Expedition reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle people feel good about keeping for the long haul, with repeated praise for comfort, towing ability, and overall usefulness. That kind of feedback matters because it suggests the Expedition is the sort of SUV you can count on for regular family and utility duty.
The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by emphasizing the Expedition’s strong engine, huge cabin, and impressive technology as core strengths. It also notes that Ford includes a complimentary 90-day trial subscription to connected navigation service, which adds some early ownership value.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a big, powerful SUV can be expensive to live with if you rack up fuel, tire, and repair costs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Expedition?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on ride quality, electronics, and any signs of heavy use, especially if the SUV has been used for towing or family hauling. Pay close attention to condition inside and out, since these vehicles are often chosen for demanding daily duty.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup includes XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline, with the Timberline adding standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, suspension modifications, more ground clearance, a skid plate, and off-roading tech such as Trail Turn Assist. The Limited Stealth Edition adds blacked-out styling, black 22-inch wheels, and other appearance upgrades, while the base setup is lighter on premium equipment.
- Powertrain: Every version uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, with some versions getting a high-output tune. Output ranges from 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque to 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque on the higher-output setup.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Starting with Limited, Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, speed-limit-sign recognition, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist. King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0, which adds a surround-view camera system, rear automatic emergency braking, and Active Park Assist 2.0.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 12-inch touchscreen, while Sync 4A upgrades to a 15.5-inch portrait-oriented display. Both systems include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, FordPass Connect with Wi-Fi hotspot access, natural voice recognition, and connected navigation with a complimentary 90-day trial subscription.
- Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy ranges from 17 mpg to 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 16.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.
Which 2022 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?
The 2022 Ford Expedition is offered in 6 trim levels: XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline.
Here's the short version:
- XL STX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Expedition’s size and core capability without paying for the higher-end equipment that appears as you move up the range.
- XLT: This is the logical step up if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and value, especially since the lineup adds more convenience and tech as you climb.
- Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks Co-Pilot360 Assist+ and can be paired with the Stealth Edition treatment for a more distinctive look.
- King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and the standard Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 safety package.
- Platinum: This is the right pick if you want the most premium mainstream Expedition experience, including standard Co-Pilot Assist 2.0.
- Timberline: Pick this if you want the most off-road-oriented version, with standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, suspension changes, more ground clearance, a skid plate, and Trail Turn Assist.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Expedition?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,324 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.12% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,167.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Ford Expedition's resale value?
The current average of $40,160 sits slightly below last year's $47,875.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you shop carefully now, you may reduce the amount of value lost over the next few years.
The flip side is that a large SUV with a higher running cost can be harder to justify if demand softens further. Your best resale position will come from buying a well-equipped, well-kept example with strong history and broad appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Ford Expedition safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Starting with Limited trim, Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, speed-limit-sign recognition, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist. King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0, which adds a surround-view camera system, rear automatic emergency braking, and Active Park Assist 2.0.
One caution is that the lane-centering assist can be irritating and inconsistent in heavier traffic, and it may cancel itself unexpectedly. That means you should treat the hands-free and semi-automated features as helpful tools, not substitutes for attentive driving.
Should I buy a 2022 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 brings updated infotainment, revised styling, and available BlueCruise hands-free driving tech.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,363, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,160 average.
- It is a capable full-size SUV for towing, hauling cargo, and carrying passengers.
The bottom line: If you want the newer tech, updated styling, and stronger market selection, the 2022 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in good condition with the equipment you need.
