Is the 2022 Ford Expedition a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Ford Expedition earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its towing capability, comfort for long trips, and spacious interior. They also see it as a good value relative to other large SUVs, and many appreciate its strong overall usefulness for family duty.

The trade-offs are clear: the Expedition can be expensive, and some owners prefer the sound of a V-8 over the V-6. In expert testing, it also stood out as a full-size SUV that feels especially distinctive in Stealth Edition form, which fits buyers who want a large SUV with more personality than the class norm.

With 33.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, especially those who value comfort, towing, and everyday usefulness over flash. The Expedition’s strong long-term appeal also comes through in the way owners describe it as a vehicle they can count on for family travel and regular heavy use.

Expert testing reinforces that sense of durability in daily driving, with the Expedition described as a capable, substantial SUV that feels built for real-world work. The maintenance-friendly ownership story is helped by the fact that Ford includes a complimentary 90-day trial subscription to connected navigation service.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a large, powerful SUV can bring higher running costs and more wear-related issues if it has been used hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Expedition?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on ride quality, electronics, and signs of heavy use, since this model can be expensive to own and some examples may have seen towing or family-hauling duty. Pay close attention to condition, especially if you are considering a higher-trim vehicle with more technology and equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline. Base versions are more straightforward, while higher trims add more comfort and technology; the Timberline stands out with standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, more ground clearance, a skid plate, and off-road-focused hardware.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, with some versions getting a high-output tune. The engine is a major strength, and fuel economy is not a highlight.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Limited and above add Co-Pilot360 Assist+, while King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0.
• Infotainment: Standard Sync 4 uses a 12-inch touchscreen, while Sync 4A upgrades to a 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen. Both include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, FordPass Connect with Wi-Fi hotspot access, natural voice recognition, and connected navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy ranges from 17 mpg to 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 16.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?

The 2022 Ford Expedition is offered in 6 trim levels: XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline.

Here's the short version:

• XL STX: This is the simplest entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Expedition’s space and capability without paying for extra luxury features.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability while staying below the pricier luxury-focused versions.
• Limited: This is the sweet spot if you want a strong mix of comfort, technology, and available upgrades, including access to more advanced driver-assistance features.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and the standard safety and convenience upgrades that come with the higher trim.
• Platinum: This is the most premium mainstream choice, with the richest equipment mix and standard advanced safety hardware.
• Timberline: Pick this if you want the most rugged setup, since it adds standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, more ground clearance, a skid plate, and trail-focused equipment.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, while Co-Pilot360 Assist+ starts with Limited and Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 is standard on King Ranch and Platinum.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Expedition?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,347 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,703, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $38,703 sits slightly below last year's $47,733.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at today’s average or below, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who bought when prices were higher.

For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Expedition’s value has softened, so condition and trim will matter a lot when it comes time to list it. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than higher-mileage or heavily used ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition safe?

The 2022 Ford Expedition earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford groups its driver-assistance features into three Co-Pilot360 collections. Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Starting with Limited, Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, speed-limit-sign recognition, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist.

King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0, which adds a surround-view camera system, rear automatic emergency braking, and Active Park Assist 2.0. BlueCruise is also available for hands-free driving on approved highways.

One caveat is that the lane-centering system can be frustrating in heavier traffic and on curves, so you should test it carefully if you plan to rely on it often.

Should I buy a 2022 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert testing highlights the twin-turbo V6, distinctive styling, and strong overall full-size SUV appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,158, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $38,703 average.
• It is a practical choice for towing, hauling, and carrying passengers.

The 2022 is the better pick if you want the newer tech, stronger market inventory, and a more current feature set. If your priority is saving money and you mainly want the Expedition’s core utility, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path.
