Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, fuel efficiency, and smooth ride, and they also like the modern features and overall value. The overview points to a practical small crossover that is easy to live with, especially if you want straightforward daily transportation rather than something more ambitious. With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in everyday use, with comfort and fuel efficiency helping it earn repeat approval from shoppers who want a trouble-free crossover. The expert review also describes it as a straightforward, easy-to-use SUV that covers the basics without much fuss. Chevy backs it with a three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-liked, practical SUV can still show wear if maintenance or prior use was neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of heavy use, since a clean history does not guarantee a clean mechanical story. Pay extra attention to how the transmission feels on the road test and whether the cabin and tech features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RS adds black exterior trim, darkened 19-inch wheels, a black interior with red stitching, and a model-specific shift knob, while the base trims are more conventional and most trims come with cloth seats standard. The RS is the most distinctive-looking version, but the base setup is more about value than flair.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. It is tuned more for everyday torque than for quick high-rpm passing.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, a Safety Alert Seat, and Teen Driver. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a built-in 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Higher trims get an 8-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch instrument-cluster screen, and navigation plus a Bose 7-speaker audio system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The Equinox returns 28 mpg combined, with 26 mpg city and 31 mpg highway in front-wheel-drive form. All-wheel-drive models lose 1 mpg in each category.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 3 trim levels: LS, LT, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Equinox and are comfortable with the standard equipment set.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and gives you a more balanced mix of equipment and price.
• Premier: This is the top trim if you want the most upscale version of the Equinox and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety content notes that some driver-assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, are standard on several competitors but not on the Equinox.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,309 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,464, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $18,464 sits slightly below last year's $21,287.

That drop suggests the Equinox has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to the original market peak. The model’s broad appeal and practical reputation should help it remain easy to explain to the next shopper.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2022 Equinox received top “Good” scores in most Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, but received a “Marginal” rating in the updated side crash test. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2022 Equinox a five-star overall safety rating, with five stars in frontal and side crash tests, and four stars in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, a Safety Alert Seat, and Teen Driver. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.

The Marginal IIHS side-crash result is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds revised styling, wireless smartphone integration, and available parking-assist tech.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,650, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,464 average.
• It adds a little extra power and a more sophisticated braking system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and a healthy supply of listings. If you can stretch for a newer model and want the incremental updates, the 2023 is the cleaner choice for buyers who care more about freshness than price.
