How much does the 2022 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 11.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,278 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW X3 earns a 4.92/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

You get a mix of comfortable ride quality, stylish design, and high-quality features, and owners also praise the added safety features and quiet performance. The X3’s refreshed setup adds more technology and a broader safety suite, which fits its role as a well-rounded luxury compact crossover. The main trade-offs are that the base engine is underwhelming and the vehicle can feel larger than some shoppers need.

With its broad appeal as a mainstream luxury crossover and its strong value positioning, it makes sense if you want an upscale daily driver with plenty of equipment. The market still shows 40.2% good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as comfortable, quiet, and high quality, and the owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience with strong satisfaction over time. The expert drive notes also emphasize that the X3 is a balanced, complete package rather than a fragile specialty vehicle, and the refreshed model’s standard equipment adds to that sense of everyday usability. BMW also includes a broad set of standard safety and convenience features that can help reduce day-to-day hassle.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about premium-vehicle running costs and the possibility of higher repair bills as mileage climbs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple options. Focus on condition, maintenance records, tire wear, and whether the equipment you want is actually present on the specific vehicle.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X3 sDrive30i is the only rear-wheel-drive model, while the other trims are all-wheel drive only. The M Sport Package adds a sportier exterior treatment, and the X3 M40i brings more aggressive styling and standard convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The M40i steps up to a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system and 382 hp.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, and side collision avoidance.
• Infotainment: BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 5.1-inch instrument display, wireless smartphone compatibility, over-the-air updates, navigation, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Live Cockpit Professional expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive30i is rated at 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The xDrive30i returns 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The M40i is rated at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point and the only rear-wheel-drive version, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and a traditional BMW feel. It gives you the core X3 experience with the standard tech and safety equipment, but it’s also the trim most clearly affected by the underwhelming base engine note and modest fuel economy.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same core equipment and powertrain. If you want the most balanced mix of price, traction, and everyday usability, this is the trim to focus on.
• M40i: This is the one to buy if you want the strongest performance and the most engaging driving experience. It adds the punchier six-cylinder engine, the mild-hybrid system, and more standard convenience features, making it the most compelling choice if you care about acceleration and refinement.
• M: This is the top performance-oriented version, so it’s the right pick if you want the most aggressive X3 character and are shopping for the highest level of capability in the lineup.

The standard safety package is already extensive, so even lower trims give you a strong baseline of driver assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

It looks like a buyer’s market, with meaningful inventory and a favorable price trend.

• Deal availability: 40.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,278 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,357, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $28,357 sits slightly below last year's $31,888.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may pressure resale if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at today’s average or below, you reduce the chance of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. Strong equipment, especially desirable safety and tech features, can help support demand when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 has been awarded a five-star crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the 2018 X3 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment is extensive and includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, and side collision avoidance.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds more technology, new engines, and an expanded safety suite.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,037, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,357 average.
• It offers a spacious interior and broad technology appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newer refresh with stronger standard equipment and a better shopping environment, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in good condition with the features you want.
