How much does the 2022 BMW M4 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 283 listings available, which suggests a relatively limited pool of used M4s to shop from.

Is the 2022 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — with a 5/5 user rating and an expert rating of 7.7/10, the 2022 BMW M4 is a strong pick if you want a performance-first sports car. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

The M4’s appeal comes from its strong blend of power and handling, and it delivers a focused, rewarding driving experience. It also brings impressive technology, which helps round out its personality as a serious driver’s car. The main trade-offs are a potentially polarizing design and poor fuel economy.

With 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The M4’s overall package points to a car built around performance and driver engagement, and its expert evaluation also highlights impressive technology and a well-rounded feature set.

The performance side is especially convincing: the engine is described as powerful, and BMW backs the car with free scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles. That helps soften some ownership costs early on.

For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is that a high-performance car can become expensive to maintain once warranty coverage and complimentary service end.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, service history, and signs of hard use. Pay close attention to condition, since performance cars can vary a lot depending on how they were driven and maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The M4’s cabin is described as luxurious and well put together, with a sporty, driver-oriented cockpit. The optional carbon-fiber trim package and M Carbon bucket seats add more track-focused character, while the standard M sport seats are better suited to daily commuting and long drives.
• Powertrain: The M4 uses a direct-injected, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. The standard engine makes 473 horsepower, while the Competition version is tuned to 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive, manual and automatic transmissions, and xDrive all-wheel drive are part of the performance story.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, park distance control, automatic high-beam headlights, Active Protection, and Active Driving Assistant. The Active Driving Assistant package includes lane-departure warning, speed-limit recognition, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear-collision preparation. Many safety features are optional on the base model.
• Infotainment: The M4 uses BMW Live Cockpit Professional with iDrive 7, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, BMW Maps navigation, and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Optional tech includes a head-up display, wireless charging, gesture control, and a WiFi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The M4 is rated at 19 mpg in combined city/highway driving, while xDrive-equipped versions return 18 combined mpg.

Which 2022 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW M4 is offered in 3 trim levels: M4, M4 Competition, M4 Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• M4: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core M4 experience with the standard 473-horsepower engine and rear-wheel drive. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the model, but you should be aware that many safety features are optional on the base model.
• M4 Competition: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the stronger 503-horsepower tune and more of the M4’s performance edge without going all the way to xDrive. If you want the sharpest balance of price and capability, this is the trim to focus on.
• M4 Competition xDrive: This is the most traction-focused version, and it is the one highlighted for its ability to fully harness the car’s torque. It suits you best if you want maximum acceleration and all-weather grip.

Many safety features are optional on the base model, so it is worth checking equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW M4?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 283 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $67,111, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $69,334 sits slightly below last year's $69,986.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening. For a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern can be helpful because it points to predictable demand instead of a sudden drop in value.

The M4’s strong enthusiast appeal also helps support resale interest, especially when the car is well kept and properly documented. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW M4 safe?

The 2022 BMW M4 comes standard with adaptive cruise control, park distance control, automatic high-beam headlights, an Active Protection package, and an Active Driving Assistant package.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Active Protection package includes automatic front seat belt tensioning, automatic closing of windows and moonroof, fatigue and focus alert, and post-collision braking. The Active Driving Assistant package includes lane-departure warning, speed-limit recognition, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear-collision preparation.

Many of those features are optional on the base model, and BMW does not offer pedestrian detection on the M4. Crash testing was not performed by NHTSA or IIHS for this model.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds xDrive availability for the top-spec M4 Competition and brings a soft-top convertible option.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $65,285, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $69,334 average.
• It emphasizes a manual gearbox and a more traditional enthusiast feel.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $72,140, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $69,334 average.
• It adds the limited-edition M4 CSL for buyers who want a more extreme performance focus.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the best mix of performance, technology, and broader body-style and drivetrain availability. If price matters most, the 2021 is the value play; if you want the most special version, the 2023 is the one to chase.
