How much does the 2021 BMW M4 cost?

Prices are up 1.14% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 252 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW M4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

The M4 is built for drivers who care as much about the experience as the destination, and it is especially appealing if you want a car that feels engaging rather than merely fast. Its powerful engine and fun-to-drive character are the core of its appeal, and the available manual gearbox makes it even more attractive if you value involvement behind the wheel.

The main trade-offs are a poor ride quality, poor fuel economy, and a cramped back seat. That means it fits you best if you are willing to give up some everyday comfort and practicality in exchange for driving enjoyment.

32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The M4’s appeal is rooted in its strong performance and driver-focused character, and the expert evaluation also points to a well-rounded daily-driving experience when you stay within its intended mission. The twin-turbo inline-six is described as smooth and eager, and the car’s manual gearbox is praised for its positive engagement.

The expert evaluation also notes that the manual transmission is easy to manage in traffic, which helps reduce the stress of regular use. On the cost side, the model’s performance focus means you should still expect higher ownership demands than a more ordinary used car.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is that a performance coupe like this can be expensive to keep in top shape if it has been driven hard or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or tracked. Focus on wear items, signs of hard use, and whether the car’s condition matches its mileage and asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard M4 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, while the Competition adds an eight-speed automatic and extra power. The base car is the one to focus on if you want the manual transmission and a more involved driving experience.
• Powertrain: The twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six delivers 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, while the Competition raises output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft. The engine is described as smooth, eager, and perfectly matched to the manual gearbox.
• Safety package: The manual-transmission car lacks several driver-assist features that require the Competition’s automatic transmission. The Driving Assistance Professional Package on the Competition includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assistance, evasive-steering assistance, active blind-spot protection, and extended traffic-jam assistant.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, navigation, connected services, and a Harman Kardon premium surround-sound audio system. The Executive Package adds a WiFi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging, gesture control, and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The M4 achieved 20.2 mpg on the testing loop, exceeding the official EPA estimate of 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW M4 is offered in 2 trim levels: M4 and M4 Competition.

Here's the short version:

• M4: This is the trim to target if you want the manual gearbox and the most engaging version of the car. It delivers the core M4 experience with the twin-turbo inline-six, rear-wheel drive, and the driver-focused setup that makes this model special.
• M4 Competition: Choose this if you want more power and an automatic transmission. It adds extra output and unlocks the available driver-assistance package, but it gives up the manual-transmission character that defines the standard car.

The manual-transmission M4 lacks several driver-assist features that are available with the Competition’s automatic transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW M4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make a good purchase possible.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 252 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.14% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 78.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $63,455, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $65,285 sits slightly above last year's $64,551.

That year-over-year increase suggests the M4 has held demand well, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A model with this kind of pricing stability can be easier to move when it is well cared for and presented cleanly.

Because the market is still showing solid interest, a well-maintained example should remain competitive with buyers who want a performance coupe. Strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment should matter a lot when it comes time to list it.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW M4 safe?

The 2021 BMW M4 does not have crash-test ratings listed here.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The manual-transmission M4 lacks several driver-assist features that require the Competition’s automatic transmission. On the standard car, you still get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, speed-limit recognition, front and rear collision-preparation systems, and a post-collision braking system.

If you want the most advanced safety tech, the Driving Assistance Professional Package on the Competition adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assistance, evasive-steering assistance, active blind-spot protection, and extended traffic-jam assistant. The main caveat is that the manual car misses out on those extra systems.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.14% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for its manual gearbox and highly engaging driving character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $69,334, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $65,285 average.
• It adds xDrive AWD on the top-spec Competition and a soft-top convertible.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the more affordable path into the M4’s manual-transmission character and strong enthusiast appeal. Consider the 2022 if you want the newer-year upgrades and are willing to pay more for added traction or open-air driving.
