How much does the 2022 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,757 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its sporty performance, great handling, and stylish design, and many also like the fuel efficiency and quick acceleration. That lines up well with the car’s use case as a luxury sports sedan that still feels practical for everyday driving and easy to live with thanks to its straightforward technology.

The trade-offs are clear: manual transmission availability is absent, advanced safety features are not standard, and the stereo is lacking. Even so, the market still shows 41.0% good or great deals, which gives you room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels sporty and enjoyable while still delivering the kind of efficiency and everyday usability many buyers want. The expert evaluation also describes the drivetrain as a “sweetheart” and notes that the transmission behaves flawlessly, which supports the impression of a well-sorted powertrain.

BMW also includes free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. Still, used buyers should pay close attention to reported oil leak concerns and verify service history before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a luxury sports sedan, where maintenance history and wear can matter as much as mileage. Focus on overall condition, service records, and whether the car has the equipment you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3. The 330i and 330e are the entry points, while the M340i adds a more powerful six-cylinder setup and the M3 sits at the high-performance end. If you want the best-value blend of performance and everyday usability, the M340i stands out.
• Powertrain: The 330i and 330e use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the 330e adds plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology with 23 miles of estimated electric range. The M340i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, 382 horsepower, and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The optional Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Driving Assistance Professional adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant.
• Infotainment: Every 2022 3 Series gets Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and BMW iDrive 7.0. Connected Package Pro is standard, and the system also includes BMW Remote Services and Intelligent Personal Assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: The M340i returned 24.9 mpg on the evaluation route and is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving. The 330e also offers 23 miles of estimated electric driving range.

Which 2022 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the most accessible way into the lineup and gives you the core 3 Series formula with the standard digital cockpit, easy-to-use tech, and the car’s traditional sporty character.
• 330e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid angle and the added efficiency benefit of electric-only driving for short trips.
• M340i: This is the best-value pick for most shoppers who want the strongest mix of performance, standard equipment, and everyday livability. It adds the turbocharged inline-six, mild-hybrid tech, and a much more athletic driving feel.
• M3: This is the high-performance choice if you want the most extreme version of the 3 Series lineup.

The standard safety tech package is modest, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, look for a car equipped with the optional Driving Assistance or Driving Assistance Professional package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a buyer-friendly moment if you’re shopping carefully and comparing listings.

• Deal availability: 41.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,757 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,356, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $28,502 sits slightly below last year's $30,661.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than just the badge alone.

Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones, especially because shoppers in this segment tend to compare equipment closely. A clean history and strong service records can make a meaningful difference when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings across the board from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including for rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety package includes Active Guard with forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. If you want blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, you need the optional Driving Assistance package. Driving Assistance Professional adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant.

One caveat is that the standard safety tech package is skimpy, so you should not assume a well-equipped safety suite unless the car has the right options.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 41.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the familiar formula with standard Live Cockpit Professional and a strong focus on driving enjoyment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,169, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,502 average.
• It adds the 330e plug-in hybrid to the lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $34,201, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $28,502 average.
• It brings sportier styling and updated technology.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and the classic 3 Series driving experience, the 2022 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want newer styling and updates, the 2023 is the step up to consider.
