How much does the 2022 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,741 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its sporty performance, great handling, and stylish design, and many also like the fuel efficiency and quick acceleration. For you, that means the car fits especially well if you want an everyday luxury sedan that still feels engaging behind the wheel. The overview also points to a sedan that blends usability with a more involving driving character, while keeping the technology easy to use. Trade-offs include the lack of a manual transmission and a stereo that falls short of the rest of the package. With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe the car as sporty and enjoyable while also calling out fuel efficiency and quick acceleration, which points to a model that can deliver satisfying day-to-day ownership. The performance evaluation also emphasizes a drivetrain that behaves flawlessly and a car that feels calm, cool, and confident when driven hard. BMW’s free scheduled maintenance helps the ownership equation, too. Still, some owners mention persistent oil leak issues and high maintenance costs, so you should pay close attention to service history and long-term upkeep before buying used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a vehicle history report, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on maintenance records, signs of leaks, and overall wear. Because this model can be expensive to own, condition matters as much as mileage. If you are comparing listings, pay close attention to how well the car has been maintained and whether the equipment level matches what you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3. The base setup is the 330i, while the 330e adds plug-in hybrid capability and the M340i brings a turbocharged six-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology. The M340i also gets a standard M Performance exterior treatment with exclusive grille and bumper designs, Shadowline exterior trim, and blue brake calipers.
• Powertrain: The 330i and 330e use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the 330e adds plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology with 23 miles of estimated electric driving range. The M340i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, 382 horsepower, and an eight-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode, paddle shifters, and launch control.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The optional Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Driving Assistance Professional package adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant.
• Infotainment: Live Cockpit Professional is standard and includes a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and navigation. You also get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Connected Package Pro, BMW Remote Services, and the Intelligent Personal Assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: The M340i returned 24.9 mpg on the evaluation route and is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the entry point if you want the core 3 Series experience with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder and the easy-to-use tech package. It makes the most sense if you want the badge, the driving feel, and the standard equipment without paying for the higher-output models.
• 330e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup and the added efficiency angle. It is the best fit if your driving pattern lets you take advantage of electric-only range and you want a more efficiency-focused version of the 3 Series.
• M340i: This is the best-value choice if you care most about performance. It adds the turbocharged inline-six, mild-hybrid technology, and the most athletic tuning in the lineup, while still keeping the car usable every day.
• M3: Pick this only if you want the highest-performance version and are willing to pay for it. It sits at the top of the lineup and is the most extreme expression of the 3 Series formula.

The standard safety package is limited, so if safety tech matters to you, look for a car equipped with the optional Driving Assistance or Driving Assistance Professional package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

The market looks moderate for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,741 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,146, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $28,147 sits slightly below last year's $30,464.

That price movement suggests the model has softened enough to create a more approachable used-car entry point. For a future seller, that can mean you may not recover as much as an earlier owner paid, especially if you buy near the top of the range. On the other hand, the 3 Series still has strong enthusiast appeal, which helps support demand when the car is well kept and properly equipped. If you maintain it carefully and keep the service history clean, you improve your odds of holding value better than a neglected example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2022 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings across the board from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including for rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Active Guard is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. If you want blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, you need the optional Driving Assistance package. The Driving Assistance Professional package adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you need to shop carefully if those systems matter to you.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the formula focused on driving enjoyment, easy-to-use tech, and multiple powertrain options.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,957, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,147 average.
• It adds the 330e plug-in hybrid for efficiency-minded shoppers.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,676, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $28,147 average.
• It brings sportier styling, interior updates, and newer technology.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, performance, and available inventory, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play. If you want fresher styling and updates, the 2023 is worth the extra cost.
