How much does the 2022 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.90% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,755 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its sporty performance, great handling, and stylish design, and many also like the fuel efficiency and quick acceleration. For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a luxury sedan that still feels engaging in everyday driving.

The trade-offs are clear: the manual transmission is not available, advanced safety features are not standard, and the stereo is lacking. It works best if you value driving enjoyment and easy-to-use tech more than a long list of standard convenience features.

With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with drivers highlighting its sporty performance and quick acceleration while also describing it as a model they enjoy living with over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the car’s strong driving character and the way its powertrain and chassis work together with confidence.

BMW includes free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce some early ownership costs. Even so, used buyers should pay close attention to service records and look for signs of the oil leak and maintenance concerns some owners mention.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important here because condition and maintenance history matter a lot on a premium sports sedan. Focus on service documentation, signs of wear, and whether the car has been kept up properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3. The 330i and 330e use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the M340i adds a turbocharged six-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology and more athletic tuning. The M340i stands out as the best-value choice if you want the strongest blend of performance and everyday usability.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged four-cylinder in the 330i and 330e, with the 330e adding plug-in hybrid technology and an estimated 23 miles of electric driving range. The M340i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, 382 horsepower, and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert require the optional Driving Assistance package, while the Driving Assistance Professional package adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, and more advanced commuting features.
• Infotainment: Every 2022 3 Series gets Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and BMW iDrive 7.0. Connected Package Pro is standard, and the system also includes BMW Remote Services and Intelligent Personal Assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: The M340i returned 24.9 mpg on the evaluation route and is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i, M3.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the entry point if you want the core 3 Series experience with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder and the full set of standard tech features. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the lineup.
• 330e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup and the added efficiency angle, plus the same basic sedan formula. It suits you best if commuting range and fuel savings matter more than maximum performance.
• M340i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the turbocharged inline-six, mild-hybrid tech, and the strongest performance balance in the lineup. It is the trim to target if you want the most rewarding all-around driving experience without jumping to the M3.
• M3: Pick this only if you want the high-performance version and are willing to pay for it. It is the most specialized choice in the lineup.

For safety, note that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, so you may need to shop carefully for the packages you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,755 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,185, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $28,185 sits slightly below last year's $30,603.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, which can make future resale a little more competitive for sellers. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays closer to the top of the range. The key is to avoid overpaying now, because that can make it harder to recover value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings across the board from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s standard safety package includes Active Guard, which brings forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. If you want blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, you need the optional Driving Assistance package. The Driving Assistance Professional package adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant.

One important caveat is that the IIHS award depends on optional adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight. That means you should verify equipment carefully if safety ratings are a priority.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the lineup’s easy-to-use tech and strong driving character without major changes.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,904, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,185 average.
• It adds the 330e plug-in hybrid for efficiency-minded buyers.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,822, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $28,185 average.
• It brings sportier styling, interior updates, and newer technology.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, performance, and available inventory, the 2022 is the strongest default choice. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look for its lower average price and plug-in hybrid option.
