Is the 2022 Audi A4 a good car?

Yes — 5/5 from users and 8.33/10 from our experts. The 2022 Audi A4 stands out because it still feels fresh, with a rock-solid structure and modern technology that keep it competitive in the luxury sports sedan class. It is also fun to drive, and its safety ratings add to the appeal.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the cramped back seat.

38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Audi A4 comes across as a well-sorted luxury sedan with a rock-solid structure and a refined, modern feel. Its powertrains are described as smooth and rewarding, and the car’s overall execution suggests it has aged well rather than feeling dated.

The standard AWD setup and the car’s strong feature content also support confidence in everyday use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the most appealing versions may cost more to buy and maintain than the base model suggests.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Audi A4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the car’s equipment and trim level match the listing. A clean history matters here because the best-equipped versions can be expensive to replace if something has been overlooked.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige, and the higher trims add more of the features that make the A4 feel upscale. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment, so it is worth comparing it closely against the next step up.
• Powertrain: The A4 is offered with 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI model series. The 40 TFSI uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, while the 45 TFSI brings 261 hp and 273 lb-ft and feels much stronger.
• Safety package: Audi Pre Sense includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Higher-spec versions also add lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, and Park Assist.
• Infotainment: The A4 uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Audi Connect, wireless smartphone charging, and available navigation. The system is easy to use, but the screen layout may not feel as integrated as the rest of the cabin.
• Fuel efficiency: The 40 TFSI earns 29 mpg in combined driving, while the 45 TFSI is rated at 27 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Audi A4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Audi A4 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the A4’s core strengths at the lowest price. It gives you the basic luxury-sedan formula, but you should compare it carefully against the higher trims because the A4’s appeal grows quickly as equipment is added.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it should give you the strongest balance of equipment and price. If you want the A4 to feel properly modern and well equipped without stretching to the top trim, this is the one to target.
• Prestige: This is the trim to buy if you want the most complete version of the A4. It adds the richest feature set and is the version that best showcases the car’s technology and safety equipment.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, it is worth checking the exact equipment list on the trim you are considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Audi A4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 673 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,811, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Audi A4's resale value?

The current average of $22,811 sits slightly below last year's $26,461.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one, the A4’s strong feature content and premium badge should help it remain appealing, especially if it is well maintained and accident-free. The strongest versions will usually hold attention better than a bare-bones example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 safe?

The 2022 Audi A4 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre Sense includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The available driver-assistance suite also includes lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, and Park Assist.

One caveat is that the adaptive cruise control can react a bit slowly in changing traffic situations, so you should still stay engaged behind the wheel.

Should I buy a 2022 Audi A4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It still feels fresh, with modern technology and a rock-solid structure that make it stand out in the compact luxury sedan class.

The bottom line: The 2022 Audi A4 is the right pick if you want a used luxury sedan that still feels current, drives well, and brings strong safety credentials. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, a lower-priced example with a clean history can make a lot of sense, but you should still prioritize condition and equipment over simply chasing the cheapest listing.
