Used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 for Sale nearSaint Louis, MO

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 cost?

Prices have softened 9.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 274 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its quiet cabin, smooth driving experience, and spacious interior, and they also like its performance and design. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a mainstream-minded electric crossover meant to feel approachable if you’re moving into an EV for the first time.

The trade-offs are clear, though. Experts call out unimpressive electric range, unintuitive technology, and poor visibility, so you should expect some compromises even if the overall package feels polished.

With its broad availability and family-crossover mission, it makes the most sense if you want a comfortable, quiet EV rather than a tech-forward or range-leading one. Good and great deals account for 38.3% of listings, which suggests you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels reliable, comfortable, and quiet, with many owners describing it as a strong long-term EV choice. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Volkswagen built it to be familiar and easy to live with, especially for drivers coming from gasoline vehicles.

Volkswagen also includes an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty, which is an important ownership safeguard on a used EV. Even so, you should still pay close attention to battery health, charging habits, and any signs of unusual range loss before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the battery, charging behavior, software operation, and the condition of the cabin electronics, since used EV ownership often comes down to how well the car has been maintained and charged.

Focus on whether the car still feels consistent in daily use, especially if you plan to rely on home charging most of the time. If you’re considering a higher-mileage example, ask for battery state-of-health information and confirm how much of the battery warranty remains.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base ID.4 Pro has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and cloth seats, while the Pro S and 1st Edition add leatherette upholstery. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you without some of the nicer cabin materials, so it’s the trim where feature gaps matter most.
• Powertrain: At launch, the ID.4 used a single rear-mounted electric motor with 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque; AWD versions add a second motor up front and increase output to 295 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. The rear-drive setup is described as balanced and easy to drive, while AWD adds traction and stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard driver aids include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist adds automated lane centering, and the standard suite is a major strength across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 10-inch touchscreen, with a 12-inch screen optional, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes a 5.3-inch instrument display and over-the-air-style convenience features are not described here, so you should judge the system mainly on usability and responsiveness.
• Range & charging: The RWD Pro S and 1st Edition are rated at 250 miles of range, the base RWD Pro at 260 miles, the AWD Pro S at 240 miles, and the AWD Pro at 249 miles. Volkswagen says DC fast charging can take the battery from 5% to 80% in 38 minutes, and the battery pack is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you want to know how the battery has been treated, whether the car has mostly seen home charging or frequent DC fast charging, and whether range loss seems normal for age and mileage. A battery inspection matters because long-term value depends heavily on usable capacity and how much warranty coverage is still left.

Which 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in 4 trim levels: Pro, Pro S, AWD Pro, AWD Pro S.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the entry point, and it gives you the strongest value case if you want the ID.4’s core EV experience without paying for extra trim content. It also delivers the longest quoted range in the lineup at 260 miles, so it’s the one to target if efficiency matters most.
• Pro S: This trim adds leatherette upholstery and a more upscale feel, making it the better pick if you want a nicer cabin and don’t mind giving up some value. It’s a good middle ground if comfort matters more than maximizing range.
• AWD Pro: Choose this if you want the added traction and stronger output of the dual-motor setup, especially if you drive in poor weather or want more confident acceleration. It keeps the more affordable trim structure while adding all-wheel drive.
• AWD Pro S: This is the most fully equipped version in the lineup, combining the dual-motor setup with the nicer Pro S cabin treatment. It makes sense if you want the most complete ID.4 experience and are willing to pay for it.

Travel Assist and Emergency Assist are standard, so even the lower trims get a strong safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 274 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,880, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $18,782 sits slightly below last year's $20,817.

That decline suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the ID.4 easier to purchase now but may also mean future resale gains are limited if prices stay soft. If you buy at the right number, you reduce the risk of being upside down later.

For a future seller, the key is to buy a clean example with strong equipment and a healthy battery, because EV shoppers tend to care a lot about condition and remaining range. A well-kept ID.4 should still attract interest thanks to its mainstream crossover format and broad appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 safe?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist adds automated lane centering, and it’s standard rather than reserved for a higher trim.

That makes the ID.4 a strong safety choice for shoppers who want a well-equipped EV without having to climb the trim ladder. The main caveat is that the AWD version was not tested by NHTSA in the source material, so you should focus on the tested configuration and the standard safety equipment when comparing used listings.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model is the ID.4’s first nationwide mainstream EV launch, with standard advanced safety features and broad availability.

The bottom line: The 2021 ID.4 is the right pick if you want the first version of Volkswagen’s mainstream EV crossover and you value standard safety tech, quiet driving, and a comfortable cabin. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the current market softness makes this a good year to shop carefully and target a clean, well-priced example rather than paying up for a newer model year.
