overall

Summary
With 1,868 currently listed for sale and an average price of $38,866, 32.4% of 2021 Toyota Tundras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Tundra 4.55 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Tundra stands out as a full-size pickup that leans on proven fundamentals rather than chasing the newest trends. Its design and underpinnings date back to the mid-2000s, yet Toyota kept it relevant with modern infotainment and safety technologies. That combination gives it an old-school feel without making it feel completely out of step with the market.
For buyers, the Tundra’s appeal comes from its strong core strengths: a powerful engine, spacious cabin, and good towing capacity. Those traits make it a practical choice for work and everyday use, and owner feedback reinforces the sense that it delivers a comfortable ride and a solid, reliable experience. At the same time, its age shows in limited bed and cab configurations, poor fuel economy, and outdated technology, so it is best suited to shoppers who value capability and simplicity over the latest features.

Smooth ride, very quite, and comfortable. We love it and won’t be buying but a Toyota Tundra from now on; I just wish that I checked into them sooner, my wife had been wanting one for years. Yes, it is a good value. Only thing missing on mine is a hard cover camper for the bed. But I plan on getting that taken care of. Compared to my last truck, 1500 Ram has nothing on this truck. This truck has more in its extras, smoother and quiter ride, and it looks better.

That makes it a strong fit if you want a full-size pickup that emphasizes capability, comfort, and simplicity over the newest features. Good and great deals account for 32.8% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.55/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a truck that feels reliable, dependable, and well built over time, with owners repeatedly noting its trouble-free character and durable construction. The expert evaluation also reinforces that sense of durability, describing the truck as a rugged pickup that can take abuse and stay relevant through key updates.
Toyota’s standard safety and infotainment updates help the truck feel more current, and that matters for long-term ownership confidence. For used buyers, the main risk is less about core toughness and more about living with an older design that can feel dated and inefficient.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
At 74.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a truck with higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of hard use, since this model is often bought for work and towing. If you want the cleanest example, compare accident history carefully against price and equipment.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SR is the most basic version, with halogen headlights, steel wheels, manual climate control, cloth seating, and fewer convenience features than the higher trims. The SR5 adds power-adjustable front seats and a larger touchscreen, while the Limited is the best-value step up if you want more comfort without checking extra boxes.
- Powertrain: Every 2021 Tundra uses Toyota’s I-Force 5.7-liter V8 with a six-speed automatic. It delivers strong acceleration, and the truck is available with four-wheel drive and low range.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are optional.
- Infotainment: The truck comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, with an available 8-inch screen with navigation. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, USB ports, and a WiFi hotspot trial are included.
- Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive model returns 13 mpg city, 17 highway, and 15 combined, while the four-wheel-drive version returns 13 mpg city, 17 highway, and 14 combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, TRD Pro, Platinum, and 1794 Edition.
Here's the short version:
- SR: This is the value-focused entry point, but it is also the most stripped-down version. You get the basics, so it makes sense only if price matters more than comfort and convenience.
- SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power-adjustable front seats and a larger 8-inch touchscreen without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Limited: This is the sweet spot if you want a more complete truck. It adds 20-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
- TRD Pro: Choose this if you want the most off-road-focused setup in the lineup, with a 2-inch lift, Fox off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and a TRD exhaust.
- Platinum: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with heated and ventilated front seats, leather-and-woodgrain trim, and more upscale exterior details.
- 1794 Edition: This largely mirrors the Platinum’s content but adds unique visual and interior touches for shoppers who want a more distinctive look.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard across the lineup, so even the lower trims include the core driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,860 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.12% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,593, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $38,887 sits slightly below last year's $39,329.
That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current trend implies you may not see rapid appreciation, but the truck’s pricing has remained relatively stable rather than falling sharply. That kind of steadiness can be helpful if you plan to own it for several years before reselling.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra safe?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Standard safety equipment also includes eight airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, trailer sway control, and an integrated trailer brake controller. Optional features include front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It blends old-school truck fundamentals with updated infotainment and standard safety tech.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $36,672, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $38,887 average.
- It is praised for reliability and a roomy cabin.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $39,068, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $38,887 average.
- It brings an all-new design with broader updates and more powertrain change.
The bottom line: The 2021 makes sense if you want the last version of the old-school Tundra formula with modern safety and infotainment. If you are price-sensitive, the 2020 is the cheaper route; if you want a full redesign, the 2022 is the better long-term comparison point.
