CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 1,108 currently listed for sale and an average price of $35,115.00, 31.7% of 2021 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Sienna 4.33 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
74.4% of 2021 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Sienna stands out because Toyota gave its minivan a major makeover for the year, adding new styling and a hybrid powertrain. It also marks the Sienna’s fourth generation of production since debuting as a 1997 model. For buyers who want a family hauler that emphasizes efficiency and comfort, that combination makes the 2021 Sienna especially distinctive.
Its biggest strengths are easy to understand: it is fuel-efficient, has a great ride quality, and is spacious. The hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain is standard equipment, which gives the Sienna a clear identity in a segment where practicality matters. It is also built on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, shared with the Highlander and other current Toyota models.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The stereo is lacking, and the styling is described as uninspired. Some drivers also mention concerns about acceleration, interior material quality, missing features like a spare tire, and limited connectivity tech options. Even so, the 2021 Toyota Sienna’s roomy cabin and strong gas mileage make it appealing to shoppers who value everyday usefulness over flash.

HUD, Gas mileage, Radar cruise with lane trace assist etc. makes it a great vehicle for long road trips. Wish the BSM indicators appear on the HUD and have more options displayed on the HUD as well. Also the Android Auto\Apple Car Play navigation is not projected into HUD. Wish that was included as well.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $35,115 |

| Year-Round High | $36,374.20 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $36,355 |

Prices have softened 3.41% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,106 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $32,986.84, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — the 2021 Toyota Sienna earns 4.33/5 from owners and 8.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
Drivers consistently praise the roomy interior, excellent gas mileage, and smooth handling. The hybrid setup and available AWD also come up as strong fit-for-purpose strengths, especially if you want a family hauler for road trips.
The main trade-offs are the acceleration and interior material quality, along with some missing connectivity features. In practical terms, that means you’re getting a highly usable minivan that leans more toward comfort and efficiency than excitement.
For family use, the Sienna’s spacious cabin and flexible seating make it especially appealing if you value everyday utility over flash. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as dependable, trouble-free, and a vehicle they can count on for family duty and road trips. The hybrid powertrain is also presented as a proven setup, which supports confidence in everyday use.
Toyota’s ownership pitch adds to that impression with long warranty coverage on hybrid-related components, which helps reduce some early ownership anxiety. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the concept and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean service history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Sienna?
At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has been used heavily for family hauling. Focus on condition details that matter in a minivan: seat wear, interior trim condition, and whether the equipment you want is actually present.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LE and XLE use 17-inch wheels, while Limited, XSE AWD, and Platinum AWD move to 18-inch wheels; XSE FWD and Platinum FWD get 20-inch wheels. The base setup is simpler, while higher trims add more upscale exterior and interior presentation.
- Powertrain: A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors produce 243 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available, and the hybrid setup is tuned more for efficiency and smoothness than quick throttle response.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane-tracing assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, lane-departure alert, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The Star Safety System is also standard.
- Infotainment: A nine-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, and multiple USB ports. Wireless charging is limited to higher trims, and the rear-seat entertainment system is available starting on XLE.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel drive models are rated at 36 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined. All-wheel drive models are rated at 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Sienna is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: LE gives you the core hybrid Sienna experience, but it’s the most basic setup for wheels, audio, and convenience features.
- Sweet-spot trim: XLE is the best value for many shoppers because it adds more convenience and tech without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: Limited and Platinum bring the richest tech and comfort features, including higher-end audio and available display upgrades.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims is positioned as an off-road choice for typical daily driving.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across all trims, so you do not need to move up the ladder to get the core driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,106 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.41% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,986.84, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $35,115 sits slightly below last year's $36,355.
That kind of softening suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. If you own one, strong condition and desirable equipment matter more when the broader market is drifting down.
The Sienna’s family-friendly reputation and strong owner satisfaction help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with the right features. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna safe?

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.41% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Toyota’s redesign brings a standard hybrid powertrain and strong family-focused packaging.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,307, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $35,115 average.
- It offers a practical, spacious minivan with available AWD.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,391, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $35,115 average.
- It carries the redesigned hybrid formula forward with a new Woodland trim.
The bottom line: If you want the most modern Sienna experience, the 2021 is the key redesign year and the one to target. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the same formula and are comfortable paying more.
