Used 2021 Toyota Sequoia for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2021 Toyota Sequoia cost?

Prices are up 1.39% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 136 listings available, which suggests a relatively limited pool of used Sequoias to shop.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Sequoia earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners commonly praise its practicality, good looks, reliable performance, smooth ride, and ample features. That lines up with the Sequoia’s use case as a roomy three-row SUV for buyers who want serious space and standard V8 power rather than a more carlike crossover.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and poor handling are recurring concerns, and the model’s value for money is also a weak point. Even so, the market still shows 33.8% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliable performance, and the expert evaluation also describes the Sequoia’s age as a factor that can support good reliability because it has not been reworked as frequently as newer designs. The expert notes that the Sequoia’s long-running platform and straightforward setup contribute to its dependability.

If you want a used SUV you can count on, the Sequoia’s reputation and simple hardware are encouraging, but age-related wear still matters on a vehicle this old and this truck-like.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Sequoia?

At 72.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples. Focus on signs of wear that come with a large, body-on-frame SUV: suspension condition, brake feel, interior wear, and evidence of hard use. Because the Sequoia is older and truck-based, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 starts with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, three-zone climate control, pushbutton start, remote keyless entry, a 7-inch touchscreen, a power moonroof, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The SR5 Premium Package adds a power-folding/reclining third row, power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The Limited adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power liftgate, navigation, and a 12-speaker premium audio system. The Nightshade Edition adds black 20-inch wheels, black leather upholstery, second-row captain’s chairs, and LED fog lights with dark chrome surrounds. The TRD Pro is the off-road-focused choice with Rigid Industries LED fog lights, 18-inch BBS forged aluminum TRD wheels, Fox Racing shocks, a TRD-tuned suspension, beefed-up skid plates, and a limited-slip center differential. The Platinum adds heated-and-ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, a larger 9-inch touchscreen, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and air suspension.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is available with low range. The setup delivers stout acceleration and truck-like driving character, but it also contributes to weak fuel economy.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. You also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. There are no optional safety features, and you do not get lane-keeping assist or lane-tracing assist.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot. A larger 9-inch screen appears on higher-spec examples, but the system remains straightforward and easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive version returns 13 mpg city, 17 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined. The four-wheel-drive version returns 14 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Sequoia is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, Nightshade Edition, TRD Pro, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core Sequoia experience: V8 power, three-zone climate control, a power moonroof, and the standard 7-inch touchscreen. If you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup, this is the trim to start with.
• TRD Sport: This trim adds 20-inch wheels, TRD styling touches, Bilstein shocks, and a TRD sport-tuned suspension. It makes sense if you want a more distinctive look and a firmer setup without jumping to the off-road-focused model.
• Limited: This is the best-value pick for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power liftgate, navigation, and a 12-speaker premium audio system. It feels like the sweet spot between price and equipment.
• Nightshade Edition: This trim leans into appearance upgrades with black 20-inch wheels, black leather upholstery, and second-row captain’s chairs. Choose it if style and a more upscale cabin presentation matter most.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the most rugged setup. Its Fox Racing shocks, skid plates, limited-slip center differential, and TRD-tuned suspension make it the most trail-ready version in the lineup.
• Platinum: This is the most luxurious choice, with heated-and-ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, a larger 9-inch touchscreen, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and air suspension. It suits you if comfort is the priority and price is less of a concern.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard across the lineup, and there are no optional safety features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Sequoia?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 136 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.39% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 72.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $47,661, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia's resale value?

The current average of $48,325 sits slightly above last year's $47,663.

That modest increase suggests the Sequoia has held value reasonably well in the near term. For a future seller, that means you may not be dealing with a steep depreciation curve right away, especially if your vehicle is well maintained and accident-free.

The market also appears to support this model year because demand is still present despite its age and fuel economy drawbacks. If you keep mileage reasonable and preserve condition, you should have a better shot at a competitive resale price.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sequoia safe?

The 2021 Toyota Sequoia earns four-star ratings in rollover crash testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. You also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.

A key caveat is that the Sequoia rides on an older platform, and it does not offer more advanced features like lane-keeping assist or lane-tracing assist. That makes its safety equipment solid for the class, but not especially modern.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.39% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the Nightshade Special Edition and keeps the Sequoia’s strong V8, roomy cabin, and standard safety suite.

Consider the 2022 if:

• It keeps the same traditional body-on-frame formula while staying largely unchanged.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current pricing, owner satisfaction, and proven capability, the 2021 is the better near-term buy. If you’re mainly price-sensitive and find a cleaner or cheaper nearby year, that can be worth considering too, but the 2021’s market balance makes it the safer default choice.
