CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 101 currently listed for sale near Denver, CO and an average price of $30,808.00, 58.4% of 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 4.82 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2021 RAV4 Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands out as the more powerful and efficient choice in the RAV4 lineup, unless you specifically want the rugged Adventure or TRD Off-Road versions. It also comes with standard all-wheel drive, which adds to its appeal as a compact crossover SUV that aims to balance everyday usability with stronger efficiency. Its styling is another plus, giving it a look that many buyers will find attractive.
Toyota offers the 2021 RAV4 Hybrid in LE, XLE, XLE Premium, XSE, and Limited trim levels, with pricing running from $28,650 to $37,180 before the $1,175 destination charge. The XLE Premium trim is new for the 2021 model year and adds a super chrome wheel finish, a power sunroof, SofTex leatherette upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control. That makes the lineup feel broad enough to suit different budgets and preferences, while still giving shoppers a clear step up in features as they move higher.
The main tradeoff is that the stereo is lacking, which may matter to buyers who care about audio quality. Even so, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s strong fuel efficiency and generally well-liked package make it easy to understand why it appeals to so many drivers.

This is the best car I have ever owned, hands down. In addition to the wealth of features that make my long commute easier, the gas mileage cannot be beat. I fill up once a week. It is smooth and comfortable. I love the adaptive cruise control and the steer assist. I live in an area that gets a lot of snow and I trust its ability to get me safely to where I’m going in any weather. It self corrected last winter when the roads were icy. This was on a bridge and other cars were fishtailing all over, but my RAV corrected itself, drove straight, and I swear it saved me from an accident. Also, the pick up when getting on the highway is superb. It is comfortable and at 103,000 miles mine is still going strong. It’s been off road, in the mountains, all over the streets of NYC, and is my daily commuting car. Right now with its current high mileage I’d drive my RAV4 Hybrid to Alaska and back and wouldn’t worry at all about it. It runs just as well as the day I drove it off the lot with 11 miles on the odometer. I keep my cars a long time and I fully expect it to get to 300,000 miles. Take care of the maintenance and you won’t go wrong with a RAV 4 Hybrid.

This car (in the color lunar rock) is beautiful and sporty, comfortably roomy, gets great gas mileage, and has amazing safety features. I was in a rollover in my first Rav4, and came out with barely a scratch. Already a repeat customer of the Rav4 Hybrid XLE. It literally saved my life.

I compared the RAV4 hybrid to every model in its class. I bought the limited because of its features. The base hybrid models felt cheap compared to the nicer appointed models which coupled with the strong gas mileage made it a no brainer. I am extremely happy with choice. Do yourself a favor and shop around for a good deal.

| Year-Round High | $29,244.65 |

| Change vs. Last Year | +0.76% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
With 2,363 listings available, you have a decent amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions. If you find a listing below $26,743.99, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid earns a 4.82/5 user rating, and our experts give it an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent gas mileage, spacious interior, and strong performance in a variety of conditions. They also like the feature content in the higher trims, and the overall package comes across as reliable and safety-minded. The main trade-off is that some shoppers want more standard convenience features, and the stereo is a recurring weak point.
For your use case, it fits well if you want a compact crossover that balances everyday practicality with hybrid efficiency and standard all-wheel drive. 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to reliability, trouble-free ownership, and a vehicle people feel confident counting on over the long term. The expert evaluation also emphasizes bulletproof reliability and notes that Toyota includes two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance. That combination makes it a reassuring used buy if you want lower ownership stress, though you should still budget for normal wear items and verify how the vehicle was maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a full records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on tires, brakes, suspension, and any signs of interior rattles or trim wear. Since this model’s appeal depends heavily on efficiency and feature content, make sure the condition matches the asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from LE to Limited, and the higher trims add more comfort and convenience. The XLE Premium brings a super chrome wheel finish, a power sunroof, SofTex leatherette upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control, while the Limited adds more upscale equipment and the only rear automatic braking availability.
- Powertrain: The hybrid setup pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine with front and rear electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack. It produces 219 horsepower, uses standard AWD, and is tuned for strong efficiency with a combined 40 mpg rating.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all but the Hybrid LE, and rear automatic braking is exclusive to the Hybrid Limited.
- Infotainment: The RAV4 Hybrid uses either a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, and both include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Connected services are also included, and the available 8-inch setup adds a more premium feel.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it returns 40 mpg in combined driving, and testing averaged 39.7 mpg. Toyota says the hybrid can save you about 10 to 12 more miles per gallon than the standard AWD version.
Which 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, XSE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the hybrid’s core efficiency and standard AWD at the lowest price. It gives you the basics, but you give up some of the convenience and safety upgrades found higher up the range.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more complete everyday feature set without jumping too far in price. It’s the trim to target if you want a balanced mix of comfort, usability, and value.
- XLE Premium: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale feel. It adds a super chrome wheel finish, a power sunroof, SofTex leatherette upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control, making it the most appealing step-up trim for many buyers.
- XSE: Choose this if you want a firmer, sportier driving feel. It gets a sport-tuned suspension, though the ride still sits on the same tires that can feel less grippy than you might expect.
- Limited: This is the one to buy if you want the most equipment and the most upscale presentation. It also gets the only rear automatic braking availability, which is a useful safety bonus.
Safety-wise, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all but the LE, and rear automatic braking is limited to the Limited trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain across every listing.
- Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,363 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,743.99, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $28,988 sits slightly above last year's $28,768.
That kind of stability suggests the market has been willing to support this model year without major price erosion. For you, that means a used purchase is less likely to feel like a rapidly depreciating mistake if you keep the vehicle in good condition. Strong efficiency, broad appeal, and steady demand all help support future resale strength.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?
It earns an overall rating of five stars from NHTSA, and the IIHS gives it top marks in all assessments except headlights.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all but the LE, while rear automatic braking is reserved for the Limited.
One caveat is that the lane-centering system can feel overly assertive, and the adaptive cruise control can leave more space than you may want in traffic. The IIHS also notes that only the Limited’s adaptive front headlights earn a top Good review.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds the new XLE Premium trim and keeps the hybrid’s strong efficiency and standard AWD.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,187, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $28,988 average.
- It offers standard all-wheel drive, a roomy cabin, and excellent fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall package, the 2021 is the better pick because it combines steady pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and broad trim choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play as long as you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2021’s updates.
