Used 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 342 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated hatchback with an expert rating of 7.8/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

The 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback pairs a five-door layout with two rows of seating, competitive pricing, and a clear focus on purpose. It also adds attractiveness, comfort, and a dose of fun-to-drive character, which makes it a strong fit if you want practical transportation that still feels engaging.

The main trade-offs are that it can be noisy and it does not offer much cargo space. Even so, the available manual transmission and the model’s excellent value-for-money positioning make it especially appealing if you want an economy car that feels a little more rewarding to drive.

35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Corolla Hatchback is described as efficient, reliable, and durable, and it carries that reputation into this model year with a practical, purpose-driven design. Its naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder uses Toyota’s D-4S dual-injection system and variable valve timing, and the manual transmission includes rev-matching, which can help reduce transmission shock and wear.

ToyotaCare is included, with no-cost maintenance for 24 months/25,000 miles and roadside assistance for 24 months/unlimited miles.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the car has been maintained consistently, especially if you’re considering a manual-transmission example or a higher-mileage listing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?

At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect for the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Corolla Hatchback has two basic trim levels, SE and XSE, plus a Nightshade Special Edition that sits between them. SE and Nightshade models use a 4.2-inch color multi-information display, while XSE upgrades to a 7-inch screen. XSE also gets blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert standard, while it is available on SE.
• Powertrain: You get one engine choice: a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with 168 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. The hatchback comes with either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT with a physical first launch gear. The manual is only offered on lower equipment levels, and manual XSE models cannot be paired with some higher-end tech and driver-assistance content.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every Corolla Hatchback and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, and road sign assist. Manual-transmission models do not get full-range adaptive cruise control or Lane Tracing Assist.
• Infotainment: Every model gets an 8-inch touchscreen, plus Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, WiFi Connect, and Toyota Connected Services Safety Connect. XSE CVT models can add premium audio with dynamic navigation, but not manual-transmission models.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual-equipped model is rated at 28 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. The CVT-equipped model is rated at up to 30-32 mpg city, 38-42 mpg highway, and 33-36 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, Nightshade Special Edition, and XSE.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the lowest starting price and the core Corolla Hatchback experience. You still get the standard safety suite, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the full set of connectivity features, so you’re not giving up the essentials.
• Nightshade Special Edition: This trim sits between SE and XSE and is the pick if you want a little more visual distinction without jumping all the way to the top trim. It keeps the same basic equipment structure as the lower trims while adding a more styled presentation.
• XSE: This is the trim to choose if you want the most equipment and the most upscale feel in the lineup. It adds the 7-inch multi-information display, standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and the ability to add premium audio with dynamic navigation on CVT models. If you want the most complete Corolla Hatchback, this is the one to target.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, but manual-transmission models miss out on full-range adaptive cruise control and Lane Tracing Assist.

• Inventory: There are 342 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,918, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $19,788 sits slightly above last year's $19,625.

That small increase suggests the Corolla Hatchback has held its value well rather than swinging sharply up or down. For you as a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to a market that remains predictable and relatively easy to price.

The model’s reputation for efficiency, reliability, and durability should continue to support demand, especially among shoppers looking for practical transportation with some personality. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback safe?

The 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is a Top Safety Pick of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and received five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every Corolla Hatchback and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, and road sign assist. The car also comes with 10 standard airbags, Toyota’s Star Safety System, and a backup camera.

One important caveat is that manual-transmission models do not get full-range adaptive cruise control or Lane Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on XSE and available on SE.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for its blend of efficiency, reliability, durability, and a more engaging personality than many compact economy cars.

The bottom line: If you want the Corolla Hatchback’s strongest mix of value, practicality, and driving enjoyment, the 2021 is a solid choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop aggressively because the market offers a meaningful share of good or great deals, but you should be selective about condition and accident history.
