How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 13.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 848 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns 4.7/5 from owners and 8.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the blend of luxury, performance, and beautiful design, along with the comfortable interior and advanced features. The E-Class also stands out as a versatile choice, since it can be tailored toward comfort, performance, or efficiency depending on how it’s configured.

The main trade-offs are that it can feel overpriced and some desirable equipment still depends on how the car is optioned. It’s a strong fit if you want a premium daily driver that can also lean more expressive or more efficient, but the value equation matters because the price climbs quickly with options. Good and great deals account for 36.1% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its comfort, luxury, and overall quality. The expert evaluation also describes it as a quiet and excellent choice for a car this size, which supports the sense that it’s built to handle regular ownership well.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term risk is not basic durability so much as finding a well-maintained example with the equipment and condition you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title alone doesn’t tell you how the car was maintained or repaired. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin electronics, suspension feel, and any option-heavy features, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on configuration. Focus on overall condition and equipment completeness, especially if you want the car to feel as premium as its price suggests.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is richly finished even in lower trims, but the base setup can miss some of the more indulgent touches that make the E-Class feel special. The more upscale versions lean harder into the car’s elegant materials, ambient lighting, and luxury presentation.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a revised turbo four-cylinder, electrified inline-six options, and a high-output AMG V8. The four-cylinder is the least compelling choice, while the inline-six models better match the car’s size and luxury mission.
• Safety package: Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. Other driver-assist features remain optional, so you should confirm exactly which systems are fitted on any used example.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses dual 12-inch screens, a touch-enabled MBUX interface, and standard connected services. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but they are not wireless, and the system does not update over the air.
• Fuel efficiency: The E450 4Matic sedan returns 26 mpg combined (23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway), while the E350 4Matic sedan returns 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway). The AMG models are less efficient, with the E53 sedan rated at 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway) and the E63 sedan at 18 mpg combined (16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway).

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, AMG E63 S.

Here's the short version:

• E350: This is the entry point if you want the E-Class experience at the lowest price, but the base four-cylinder is described as underwhelming for a luxury car of this caliber. It makes sense if you value the badge, comfort, and styling more than outright performance.
• E450: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it brings the quieter, stronger electrified inline-six and better matches the car’s luxury character. If you want the sweet spot between refinement and capability, this is the one to target.
• AMG E53: Choose this if you want sharper acceleration, rear-biased AWD, and a more performance-focused personality without jumping all the way to the top AMG model. It adds a more dramatic driving experience while still preserving much of the E-Class comfort.
• AMG E63 S: This is the full-performance choice, with a hand-built V8 and the most extreme chassis tuning in the lineup. It’s for you if you want the fastest, most exclusive version and are willing to pay for it.

Some safety features are optional, and some are not available from any other automaker.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 848 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,864, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $36,249 sits slightly below last year's $41,925.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, since the model’s value has already softened. Well-kept examples with desirable options should still draw attention, but you should expect the market to reward clean history and strong presentation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2021 E-Class sedan and wagon earn a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability, though the driver’s side received a four-star frontal crash rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. Other driver-assistance features are optional, so you should confirm the exact safety equipment on any used example. The coupe and cabriolet versions were not tested by IIHS or NHTSA, so you should be especially careful about equipment and configuration if you’re shopping those body styles.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a mid-cycle update to the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $30,021, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $36,249 average.
• It offers a stylish, tech-forward luxury experience with an easier price of entry.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $38,945, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $36,249 average.
• It adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and rear USB ports in coupe and convertible models.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of freshness, selection, and softened pricing, the 2021 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play. If you want a slightly newer model with a few convenience updates and don’t mind paying more, the 2022 is worth a look.
