How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 12.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 828 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the blend of luxury, performance, and beautiful design, along with the comfortable interior and advanced features. The E-Class also stands out for its practical versatility and broad range of body styles and powertrains, so you can tailor it to the kind of driving you want.

The trade-offs are straightforward: some buyers feel it is overpriced, and advanced safety features are not standard. That makes it especially appealing if you value a richly appointed luxury car and are willing to pay for the right configuration.

With 35.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfortable interior, strong performance, and overall luxury experience. The expert notes also reinforce that impression by describing it as a quiet and excellent choice for a car this size, with a powertrain that feels smooth and composed in normal driving.

Mercedes also builds in some ownership-friendly touches, including a 48-volt system that helps the engine shut off more often and supports nearly vibration-free restarts in traffic. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about the complexity and cost that can come with a heavily optioned luxury car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks electronics, suspension behavior, and any optional equipment that may be expensive to repair. Focus on condition and feature content, because this car can vary a lot depending on how it was optioned.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is richly finished even in baser trims, but the standing hood ornament is no longer part of the look, and the Sport style is more common than the classic Luxury package appearance.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a revised 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, electrified inline-six powertrains, and a hand-built 4.0-liter V8 in the AMG E63 S; the base engine is described as underwhelming, while the six-cylinder and AMG setups are much stronger.
• Safety package: Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while all other driver-assist features are optional.
• Infotainment: The system uses MBUX with two 12-inch screens, touch and swipe controls, natural voice processing, and online search; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard but not wireless, and the system does not update over-the-air.
• Fuel efficiency: The E53 sedan is rated at 25 mpg combined, the E63 sedan at 18 mpg combined, the E450 4Matic sedan at 26 mpg combined, and the E350 4Matic sedan at 25 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 13 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, and AMG E63 S.

Here's the short version:

• E350: This is the entry point if you want the E-Class experience at the lowest cost, but the base engine is the least convincing part of the lineup. It makes sense if you care more about the cabin, ride, and badge than outright performance.
• E450: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it brings the stronger electrified inline-six and keeps the car quiet, smooth, and genuinely quick without jumping all the way to AMG pricing.
• AMG E53: Choose this if you want sharper acceleration, rear-biased AWD, and the more athletic feel of the AMG setup without going to the extreme of the V8 model.
• AMG E63 S: This is the full-performance version, with a hand-built V8, lowered and widened chassis, and the most dramatic capability in the lineup.

The safety content also notes that some driver-assist features are optional, so check carefully for the equipment you want on any trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 828 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,888, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $36,517 sits slightly below last year's $41,497.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend means your future resale will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and equipment level.

Well-kept examples with desirable powertrains and strong option content should hold up better than stripped or heavily worn cars. The broader appeal of the E-Class also helps, since it offers enough variety to attract buyers looking for comfort, performance, or prestige.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan and wagon earn a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability; the driver's side received a four-star rating in the frontal crash test.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. Mercedes also includes features such as Pre-Safe Sound, side-bolster inflation in a side collision, and steering and brake interventions for crosswinds. However, many other driver-assist features remain optional, so you should confirm the exact safety equipment on any used example.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a mid-cycle update to the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $30,610, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $36,517 average.
• It offers the earlier E-Class formula with stellar design, technology, and effortless demeanor.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,304, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $36,517 average.
• It carries forward the refreshed look and adds standard convenience features like automatic high beams.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of updated tech, strong owner satisfaction, and a softer used-car price, the 2021 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the newer carryover setup and are willing to pay more.
